This time, I embarked on a special cruise ship trip—an experience not something you get to have many times in your life.
My trip to Antarctica sparked my interest in Japanese cruise ships.
After searching around, I chose a trip that would take me to areas I hadn't visited before, offering different scenery and experiences depending on the season.
The time I spent on the cruise ship was incredibly luxurious and precious to me.
Being in a place that wasn't my own home, in a somewhat defined space, with all my needs—food, clothing, and shelter—contained within the ship—was a unique experience.
Because of this unusual environment, I felt I was able to slowly appreciate things I would normally overlook, and truly take in the scenery unfolding before me.
Onboard, I encountered shows, various cultural experiences, and dress codes appropriate for different occasions—unique cruise culture that I hadn't had much opportunity to experience before.
Because being able to take such a trip is not something to be taken for granted, I wanted to cherish each moment and savor it as carefully as possible.
While travel serves many purposes, recently I've been taking more trips to rediscover Japan's roots and culture.
This time, I was able to view Japan, the country I live in, from a slightly different perspective than before: "viewing it from the sea."
Even in Japan, which I thought was so familiar, there are still so many landscapes and cultures I don't know about.
It was a very valuable time that made me realize this.
