Hey! How we doin’? Ya know what I really need? A nap, but We Needed SUPERMAN, We Needed James Gunn Superman. I, HiTop Films needed hope. I guess I didn’t have to worry as much as I thought I did about the world’s response to a classic Clark Kent. I guess My Fears for James Gunn’s Superman, were mostly proven wrong. And I guess they finally did, Please, Make A Superman Movie. Here we are.

I can’t believe how great David Corenswet Superman performance was, and I’m truly in awe of Nicholas Hoult Lex Luthor. Shout out to my girl, Rachel Bosnian Lois Lane. Perfection. Krypto? Iconic. Mostly everything worked for me, it feels so lovely to finally have Superman back.

This HiTop Films Superman Video Essay nearly destroyed me like Ultraman, as most of them do, but I hope you enjoyed it.

Anyways, I can’t wait to see more of James Gunn’s DC Universe. What is technically called now, The DC Cinematic Universe? And I can’t wait to keep making DCU videos. Still though, I will say it again, The Batman Should Be the First DCU Movie, I stand by that, retroactively make it happen. Much love. Always be kind.

Much love to all you punkrockers.

Loved that Pa Kent didn't know exactly the right thing to say right away. He wasn't this perfect beacon of wisdom and goodness, he was just a dad who loved his son doing his best

“And hes not a very good one, but hes alone and scared” just simple lines, changes everything

Superman is like a home cooked meal where theres some burnt parts here and there but it was made with so much love and passion that it ends up being exactly what you need

My favorite moment is when Lois goes to the justice gang and they reveal exactly how much Superman just trusts everyone

the fact that this movie led to an increase in searches for "adopt a dog near me" embodies everything superMAN stands for

Took my three year old to see it. She said she was scared when she saw Superman screaming in agony from kryptonite and I told her with all my heart because I had faith in this Superman, in James Gunn's vision "Don't worry honey, Superman nevers gives up! He'll win"" and tbh I don't know if she believed me at the moment but I shit you not, about three days ago she took one of my superman action figures and said "Look dad it's your Superman, he never gives up!" AND IT HIT ME LIKE A TRUCK. THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT WHAT IT SHOULD BE ABOUT!

I love how Clark checked on the people he saved and reassured them with a smile. So many moments throughout the film made me go, “That’s Superman.” That’s the real punk rock

I have never felt more represented in a superhero movie than the shot of Pa Kent holding young Clark in the flying pose. Having THE Superman watching himself (and the rest of us) and smiling? Yeah. That means everything.

I think "messy" is the wrong word to be using for this film. "Chaotic" I think would be better. Because, in spite of how busy the plot is, the film is laser-focused on the idea that Superman is a kind Kansas farm boy just doing his best. All the chaos hangs around that one simple idea.

The minute he saved the squirrel, I knew we were watching a PEAK Superman

"Maybe thats the real Punk Rock" reminded me of my childhood and made me love his Superman

Between this, Superman & Lois, and My Adventures With Superman, we are truly in the Supes Renaissance.

18:17 I keep seeing people share Clark’s speech to Lex on social media but it usually cuts off at the last line that I think makes the whole speech

“For the sake of the whole world, I hope you understand that it’s yours too”

After everything he sees Lex do he still believes that Lex can change. That’s my Superman.

The first time I watched it, when Lois Lane said to Superman “you trust everyone and think everyone you’ve ever met is beautiful” I shed a tear. I thought that’s Superman, that’s who he is, that’s who I want and try to be. And when the movie cut to Superman and he said “maybe that’s the real punk rock” I thought that’s my Superman. David IS Superman. He is my Superman

Coming from a Batman guy, A wholesome action adventure that’s an unapologetic living CB is what Superman needed to show how peak he already was!

@everettenjeze6276 1 year ago

This is something Snyder failed to understand with Superman and Clark Kent/Kal El: He focused on the biblical and Greek like nature of Superman that he forgot that he was a humble farm boy raised in Kansas by two loving and honest people. James Gunn understands heroes like Superman that they are not Gods amongst men but rather people wanting to do good in the world. They are human🥹

People complain that this Sup is weak and naive. But they dont seem to see that this Superman always holds back. He's not naive he's kind. He has hope in everyone. It's relatively reasonable for Superman to have a full blown crashout on Lex regard of all the horrible things he did to him but he chose not to. It was easy to throw the hardest punches and spam his laser beam but he chose not to. Kindness is strength. Kindness is power.

There was this one time I was in the car with my grandpa we were heading home, I had recently learned that grandpa was a nerd, a big fucking nerd, a big nerd like me so much so that we traded comic books, watched Superman and Lois together, talked for hours about how we see these characters and I told him “next year there’s gonna be a Superman movie, I hope it’s good. I like the guy they’re getting to play him”

This is when he told me when he first saw Christopher Reeve’s Superman. He saw it with his buddies and he told me “the first time I saw him fly I was blown away”
I told him we’d see the new Superman together and that we’d see it opening day
My grandfather passed away in November of last year. I couldn’t see Superman with him or even finish the show but I went to see it in an advanced screening July 10th with my buddies. Wow, I was blown away. Grandpa would’ve been too
