The new BYD Dolphin G DM-i is celebrating its European premiere in Berlin. It could arrive at just the right time for many prospective buyers of a new small car. While pure electric vehicles aren't yet the ideal solution for everyone, BYD is focusing on an exciting transitional technology: the plug-in hybrid.

With its so-called DM-i technology, the compact hatchback offers a range of up to 105 kilometers (65 miles) and operates primarily on electric power. However, the gasoline engine ensures that even long journeys of up to approximately 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) can be undertaken without the hassle of charging stops. BYD aims to combine the advantages of electric and combustion engines in the small car segment (B-segment) with this technology.

In this video, we take a look at the new compact car at its premiere in Berlin, examining its design, interior, technology, and the potential of the new BYD in the highly competitive small car segment. We also discuss pricing.

Is the BYD Dolphin G DM-i the smart alternative to pure electric cars? Share your opinion in the comments!

Would a plug-in hybrid with a range of over 1,000 km be a better solution for you than a pure electric car?
