Note: I was never happy with this reaction's edit - the original edit cut out so much of Nicki's commentary and at the time I just didn't have the system to fix it but as the channel has grown and we have upgraded our capabilities, we are fixing a lot of reactions BUT THIS reaction in particular needed the most fixing - so I hope you enjoy it more than ever now.

Batman is a 1989 American superhero film directed by Tim Burton and written by Sam Hamm and Warren Skaaren. Based on the DC Comics character, it is the first installment of Warner Bros.' initial Batman film series. The film stars Jack Nicholson, Michael Keaton, Kim Basinger, Robert Wuhl, Pat Hingle, Billy Dee Williams, Michael Gough, and Jack Palance. The film's score was composed by Danny Elfman, and songs were written by Prince. The film takes place early in the war on crime of the title character (Keaton) and depicts his conflict with his archenemy the Joker (Nicholson).

Harley Quinn didn’t exist when this movie was made. She was a creation of Batman the Animated series which debuted in 1992.

I was twelve years old when this came out. It was crazy. It was the summer of Batman. The hype for this was insane and it was before the internet 😊

Harley Quinn was not created until BATMAN THE ANIMATED SERIES came along in 1992. She was a character created specifically for Arlene Sorkin.

Fun fact, the surgeon's tools were from the original Little Shop of Horrors, which Jack was the patient in.

Batman and Batman Returns are my favorite batman films. I love these.

Kim Basinger was actually an A-list actress at the time.

I've always liked how the actor they got to play the younger Jack in Bruce's flashback looks like he could be the Joker too!

My favorite Batman movie. It’s a perfect blend of the comics and the old TV series. It’s just tons of fun and not trying too hard to be all dark like the new Batman films

I remember driving down to LA to visit my grandma’s sister to go out to Disneyland and getting to go out to a late movie the night before to watch this. Was a fun trip for 10 year old me.

Jack crushes it as the Joker.
And Danny Devito absolutely kills it as the Penguin

You notice the armor looks like the Japanese armor in Bruce’s Armor room. He used it as the design for the Batman armor.

Michael Keaton was the first Batman actor to have Batman and Bruce Wayne’s voices not be the same. He really thought hard about this character and came to the conclusion that people would be able to tell the difference. 10:46 he was supposed to say “I am the night” or “I am vengeance” but Keaton adlibbed “I’m Batman” and it stuck. 27:53 this was the first time we got a different version of the Joker. Most were used to Cesar Romero as the as a joking Joker. 29:17 the makeup artists had to come up with a makeup that they could layer and remove only the top layer for the scenes when he had the skin tone makeup on to hide his Joker skin. 44:37 the actress actually had to take her shoes off cause the paint on the Batmobile was had to match and easily scratched. 58:21 what they don’t realize the money has Joker’s face on it.

Casting JACK as the Joker was so BRILLIANT! He steals the movie! His joker is one of the best ever!
People thought casting Michael Keaton for Bruce Wayne/Batman was a terrible choice. HE NAILED IT!!
Danny Elfman's Music score in this is FANTASTIC!

"Tell me something, my friend: You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?" is one of those movie lines that always sticks in your head. And it really feeds into the amount of insanity Jack Nicholson put into playing The Joker.

On another note, I would really love to have a Lego set based on the 1989 Batmobile. I got the 1960s TV show Batmobile two Christmases ago as a gift. I love it, but a movie Batmobile would look amazing in my collection too.

10:13 That's right. Batman's more of a DETECTIVE than he is a SUPER-HERO. (In fact, his grand debut in the comics was in a series called "DETECTIVE COMICS".)

"Never rub another man's rhubarb" is a colorful way of saying "don't mess with another man's romantic partner". It essentially means "don't touch or flirt with a woman who belongs to someone else".
