Reminds me of the 1979 KE55 Corolla Hardtop I used to have.   It is even the same colour.  Mine had the black pin strips on each side.  It had the 4K-C 1.3 litre engine.

But loved this old Toyota but unfortunately once you got her started I knew the rings where gone but hay it's got a hell of a milage on it so fair play to it for getter as far as it did love the rear windows that wind down

The variation in temp could point to a faulty water pump. If the impellers have corroded, water is not being circulated efficiently.

2 door! Fancy There were 2 types of 2 door, a 'fast back' the one you have and a 'notch back' which had regular boot, pillared doors, rear windows were push out not wind down
