Wow I learned  most of this from the scouts.

FM 21-76 was my introduction to bushcraft and survival training. That was over 40 years ago! I used to pride myself on going camping with a big knife and a change of underwear. FM 21-76 helped me make camping with my family later on SO much easier.

I went through the SERE course at Bragg.  Skills learned based in large part of survival by Col. Nick Row, POW for 7 years in Vietnam.

@16:29 'Visible for many miles'  in my experience, as a Drop Zone Control Officer (DZCO) in the USAF for their Air Drop Training, I have regularly seen mirror sun flashes by C-141 aircraft over 25 miles away. They were flying at 1,000' above the ground and I was using a signal mirror as shown in this video. At 5 miles away they would ask me to stop flashing as it was so bright it blinded them.

The battery powered satellite radio has it place...  at night, also on foggy, cloudy, and overcast days, so consider the extra weight.

At 15:00 minutes in this is one of the best broad spectrum, wide ranging survival primer videos that I’ve seen on YouTube in quite some time. This brings forth the simplicity of military rooted training (Ranger Survival and Fieldcraft) and the recognizable attributes of civilian training (Cody Lundin, Matt Graham, Les Stroud) into a single very well rounded and comprehensive media. It’s also got the accessibility factor that put Dave Canterbury on the permanent YT map. Particularly his older series and his recent return to survival fundamentals. Lastly I’d be remiss not to shout and shout loudly for Mors Kohanski. Particularly when the subject at hand is the careful selection of cross-utility and multiplicity of applications in single tools and expendables. After all it was Mors, who, for over 70 years promoted precisely that. Namely that our number one survival kit lives permanently between our ears. Thank you for such an outstanding piece of work 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼(I’m out of hypes for this week but will return when they reset me)

I still taught improvised litters in combat lifesaver training.

Potassium permanganate is a cute fire-starter, and the video didn't mention its ability to dye things a spectacularly eye-catching purple. Otherwise? Unless you have the training and experience to get it right, first time, every time, leave it at home. If you aren't spot-on the dilution it either won't be effective water purifier (wound treatment, etc), or go the other way and cause other health problems than those you are trying to treat. That's on top of the risks inherent in carrying around a fairly powerful oxidizer.

learned most of this from my pap hunting the rest in the army. it helped knowing the stars

I learned during my 6 yrs in the Marine Corps, that you fold up your maps to your mission perimeters. We Marines move faster and often outside the original mission set. Using petroleum jelly on cotton balls is a great fire starter. We didn’t have much sugar lying around. lol. We always had water purification tabs. Now I use a Grayl Geopress ti water filter bottle. As an engineer, I was trained heavily in camouflage and concealment.

Surprising how much of this video was still being taught in the British army in the 80's-90's.

21:50 The water filter depicted is backwards:  rocks, sand, charcoal then grass. Opposite of the order described and depicted earlier.

You don't dig a solar still into the driest possible ground; you do, however, put chopped cactus or other moist vegetation in the distillation pit.

Awesome very good sir

Native Americans have known these skills all along.

Love the desert photos for water, remember in the southwest US. arsenic is a serious consideration to found water.... two water systems used at NTC.

Thanks bro very nice

Land navigation is a skill you have to learn on the ground , you can research on the subject but you'll have to go t o the field in order to get proficient at it , , , practice practice practice ! ! !

my family was trappers that came to the country to trap animals for their living . one of our survival skills was odor control . mid west was our domain .

The thumbnail is funny.  We definitely don’t have time to sit around doing bushcraft.   If you see a real picture like that, I’ll eat my k-pot.

the greatest challenge regarding AI will be to train it to not repeat itself...
