Welcome to Episode 7 of The Apple Tree Project 🍎! Week 7 was easily one of the most challenging, stressful, and mentally demanding weeks on site so far.
We tackled the timber subframe for the custom multi-tier decking steps, but a series of design changes meant the original plan went completely out the window. Instead of a straightforward build, I had to figure out the geometric angles, step heights, and structural framing entirely on the fly as we built it.
Working through layout changes on site always brings massive pressure, but with plenty of measuring, trial, and problem-solving, we pushed through the stress and completed the entire timber subframe. The resulting stepped decking frame is rock-solid, perfectly leveled, and ready for the composite decking boards.
In this episode:
📐 Navigating Design Changes: How we adapted the decking plan on the spot.
🔨 Complex Timber Framing: Step-by-step construction of bespoke multi-level decking steps.
🧠 On-Site Problem Solving: Working out angles, risers, and structural support under pressure.
💪 Overcoming the Hurdles: Finishing the frame so it's built to last for decades.
