I got a couple comments mentioning how Wuwa doesnt have it too well either and you’re right, while Im mostly satisfied I think its definitely becoming an issue, Im saving that for a separate video about everything wrong With Wuthering Waves

Edit: i accidentally put Thoma in female and Astra Yao in male my bad, i made these at like 1am im sorry 💀

Edit 2: I was too mean to Varesa, after playing her in game and her quest i like her a lot more, she’s pretty cute, im sorry varesa

"But male characters wouldn't sell as well as female characters."

Look at me with a straight face and tell me Varesa would have sold better than a hypothetical Capitano banner

Don't forget how cloud retainer was the only one of the adepti to become playable while moon carver and mountain shaper were npc'd never forget that

What's so funny is LADS proved that women are willing to drop MAD CASH on characters that appeals to them, and Hoyo seemed to feel somewhat threatened by it. But instead of taking notes, they went "Quick! Release more vapid waifus with zero personality and open-armpit outfits!"
Ororon being a 4* made NO SENSE when he was so central do Natlan's story (and he's the only Hero of Natlan to be a 4*.. Except apparently Iansan?) Instead they're giving us 5* VARESA??

also i saw people point out elsewhere that the idea of "male characters don't make money" is misleading, because the players who (mainly) pull for male characters have plenty of time to save their pulls and therefore won't need to spend as much money. Obviously if they were releasing new male characters more frequently, people would eventually have to spend real money on them.

The fact they held a survey and the most popular character overall was neuvillette a male character, and top the 10 consisted of many males who had barely any screen time just shows they are fumbling the bag

Honestly, this whole situation makes me think back to my K-pop fandom days. Back then, it was said that if a girl group wanted quick money and explosive but short-lived popularity, they should appeal to a male fanbase. But if a girl group wanted stability and longevity, they should appeal to a female fanbase. And I see that this is largely true in gaming as well. Women are not only more actively and willingly involved in fan content creation, but also more consistent in their attachments to characters, while male fans tend to change waifus like gloves, but are also willing to spend more on each new one. And of course, there are exceptions to everything.

my favorite part is when people then make video essays on how wanting more male characters is misogyny and how we should be happy to have more strong women. and i get that, and we do have great female characters who are well written. but these people need to realize that hoyo did not give mavuika a coochie zipper for female empowerment.

i don't mind revealing clothes and they're nothing new or unexpected. what bothers me is how cheap the designs have become just for the sake of having another new hot woman. i know people bring it up a lot, but comparing the fontaine female cast to the 5.x female cast is jarring.

and also: fellas is it misogynistic to be attracted to men

"Males don't sell", then people collectively chose to forget Jing Yuan incident that broke payment system due to so many top-up requests. Definitely, they don't sell
This situation was even reported in the news and by Hoyoverse themselves(probably? It was 2 years ago i forgot if they wrote about system going down)

"male characters dont sell" and then both genshin and hsr get pushed off the stairs by love and deepspace

About the fan art point : for every Mauvika art that appears  in twitter . I see 10 Capitano drawings spawning around the same time

I'm not a husbando enjoyer, but I was devastated when they killed off Capitano. Both from a storyline perspective and in his prospects of being playable. He was cool. They fumbled and spat on my goat so hard

I also hate how when some females would voice out their concerns about this, people will say "go play lads!" As if they're in the same genre of hsr or genshin.

"Well just play LADS!" is the new "Go back to the kitchen" in gacha communities.

Imagine creating the coolest mf in the game (Capitano), someone who looks like hes straight out of dark souls, took one good look at him and decided, "nah, lets not make him playable". 🤦‍♂️

Honestly my least favorite part about this is how weirdos constantly spout that "male characters don't sell". Then ignore all the examples where they do. Like there is literally a seperate sensor tower for husbando games but everyone ignores it. Not to mention how wierd they get when you bring it up yourself.

Id also like to remind everyone that Kafka was hyped up since before the game even launch but made less revenue than BLADE. So it's not a meta thing either

People really forgot about Neuvilette, Zhongli, Wanderer banner. Capitano has the huge potential but they also let him sacrifice himself for the sake of Mavuika sales. They knew already Capitano will make 4x time more than Citlali and Mavuika banner combined.

Fun Fact : the last tall male 5 star we had Wriothesley which 1 year a half ago

I saw a lot of guys asking for “Manly” characters in hoyo games, like buff dudes with facial hair but the closest we got is Gallagher who ended up as a 4 stars healer.
Believe me men do want to play with male characters, especially when these characters are made specifically to appeal to them. I don’t understand why hoyo won’t try to do this when they released mizuki, a character whose banner wasn’t profitable and was destined to fumble

They thought Jiaoqiu having minor healing in his base kit was too much but they're fine with Castorice giving free off field revives like ok

Genshin upsets me cuz its always one body type for their male characters when they released Sumeru the Eremites were so varied and hot and im over here like why cant i have a character built like that
