The tongue ripping is a reference to Buddhist and Hindu hell, where the king of hell asks you what your sins are and if you lie he rips your tongue out as punishment.

Pain was one of the most iconic villains in the big 3 Shounen. He had the entire fandom in disbelief. Pain arc honestly felt like a finale for Naruto's story. Because the stakes were so high and almost everybody died.
And also, Naruto and Nagato (Pain) were the two candidates for being the "child of the prophecy," one would who was said to change the world in its entirety, both of them being students of Jiraiya. It was like a moment of truth for the story. It was time to finally find out who really was the child of the prophecy. Yahiko, the most known face of Pain even kinda looked like a dark version of Naruto.

Ressurrection is a jutsu in naruto, it just costs the user's life. Usually you cann revive only one person, but Nagato has god eyes or some bs so he can do it Aoe. He dead after this...then comes back as a zombie and teams up with itachi to have a short but pretty neat fight with naruto and a rapping, 8 swords wielding octopus man. I am not explaining that one.

8:27 well each pain has a separate power. There is a pain that can bring the others back to life

25:00 looked like Chelzor was personally offended by that

This trial was a perfect example of how much of a great villain Pain was.

All the Pain clones are zombies. Pain is a necromancer.

The Pain arc was the peak of Naruto for me. It was so good!

The push/pull has a Cooldown depending on how strong the previous one was.

5:07 yea because clans have special techniques or in case of bloodlines they try to kidnap them to start their own special clan at their place or cut them up for parts

39:17 very Perfect Cell DBZA energy there

(At 11:45) He died smiling, just like Sarutobi.

There was definitely a part of me that rolled my eyes when I got to the end of this arc and everyone just got revived. I had been thinking the stakes were actually really high throughout but in hindsight, Jiraya AND Kakashi biting it should've tipped me off that some people weren't actually dead but bringing everyone who died over the course of 10 or so episodes back exceeded my expectations.

I also quite like how, at least in the dub version of Naruto and Pains talk, Pain briefly drops his whole schtick and talks to him like a normal person. Says something to the effect of "we're both just ordinary men confusing vengeance for justice"

Also I sipping whiskey

Pain vs Naruto was the first episodes I watched in sub. I didn’t even know about subbed was ahead of the dub cause for the longest time I mostly watched older anime on YouTube back in the day. Thankfully I friend told me about it when I was mad that I caught up to the dub and wanted more. He also introduced me to manga

Naruto could have been there earlier...if DANZO didn't kill the messenger toad to keep him from coming. He was about to go back to Mount Myoboku to warn him about the invasion but this old raggedy ass warmonger impaled him because according to him, Konoha shouldn't be saved by the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki and saw this as an opportunity to become Hokage.

I always loved this fight. The animations change is drastic but I think it sells how crazy strong the two are.

Naruto spinning makes a tornado. Pain summons so much water a lake forms.

The "hitting an artery" thing won't work on Pain. These things are flesh puppets made from corpses. Nagato (the guy controlling the six Pains) is basically a necromancer who sent his six strongest summons to f*ck up Naruto's home town while he was hidden outside the boundary of the conflict.

One point I've heard somebody make is that some of those people that died were crushed under debris. So when he brought them all back to life , they probably just died again

27:00 Hi, random chatter. Naruto was off training to try and master sage chakra; Tsunade tried to call him back, but Danzo killed the messenger toad when no one was looking, so Naruto didn’t know what was happening until it was too late

Legendary refresh 🎉
