I'm begging you to stop begging me to do things

And what about that sweet, glorious feeling when a conversation suddenly turns to a topic you’ve written an essay about, and you know it’s your time to shine?!

Great video!

As a current college student, AI is killing the essay and it makes me so sad. This year, most classes that used to have essays have resorted to short form in class writing and tests even in humanities classes that would otherwise have essays.

Regular mini essays are a great way to make formal academic essays less stressful

I am going to write an essay about writing essays which will give me the ability to write my masterpiece essay about how to write essays about writing essays. Watch out Socrates and Nietzche, a new philosophers in town

Preach! I brute forced my way into enjoying it, and in just 6 months people started complimenting my wording skill. That's when I realized the bar was far lower than I thought.

When I was younger, I journaled alot;  writing down my thoughts made them visible and stopped them from swirling in my head.  It was invaluable for clearing my mind so I could concentrate on the present.

Damn this is crazy because I LOVE Jane Austen, like LOVE, and I keep thinking like wow I wish I could have been assigned an essay on Pride and Prejudice or Persuasion in school, particularly on the tension between foreshadowing and dramatic irony in the books, but I studied biology so no dice. Idk if I'm stupid but it legitimately never occurred to me I could just.. write one 😭

Normalise Recording Videos While Sitting Outside. I loved the Background Outside and the way it sometimes Got brighter and sometimes Dimmer.

PhD candidate here.. Shit man. This video hit hard. I needed it. Perfectionism prevents me from writing when my entire career is based on it. I think more about the anxiety of writing than writing itself. Anyway, good perspective, I'm going to think about this over the break. Thanks for the content bro.

Here's what I tell people who say I'm never gonna re-read them. That's true—but what I've found is that when I write on a particular topic, it becomes crystal clear. If I talk about it six months later, it's still as clear as the day I wrote it. The wonderful part is that I'm not reciting from memory—I'm actually articulating it from my understanding, and the thoughts just flow. All because I wrote it once and thought it through

I feel like the fact it IS a mirror is exactly why a lot of people avoid it. Not exactly the same, but a friend and I have been trying to write fiction novels this month. We were talking about how hard it is to do because the story is "safe" in your mind. As you described, once it's on the paper, it is separate from you and easier to critique.

I appreciate this, I already wanted to write more essays in 2026. You emphasizing that it is a TOOL and not meant to be a perfect piece really lifts the pressure off. It might be easier to start than I thought! Glad I came across this video. Thanks!

It's too bad that teachers and professors don't explain essays in this way. If they approached education in this way more students might engage more with the process. Grounding and inspiring video. Thanks!! Hope it reaches a huge audience.

High Tech Engineer here...
I used essays as tools for project management my entire career.
Even in computer programming, an essay in plain language that describes the project is essential for concept development and for understanding by the entire team.
Essays about new technologies are essential for disseminating or adopting new tech.
Essays are an important part of intelligent work productivity.

Relative to this video, Essays in the workplace help guide development processes.   Essays often begin as bullet points scribbled on a marker board in a meeting room.   Team-writing happens.
Eventually someone is tasked with compiling the scribbles into a cohesive document, a formal essay.  That essay becomes the guiding light of the project.

It's IMPORTANT!

(If y'all use an LLM (AI) to organize the notes, you missed the whole point of the essay process.  No learning happens.  Plus, creativity gets muddled when fed through a machine.  Don't use machines for creative work, unless you want mechanical results.)

School taught me essays are a pain in the ass that need to follow very specific styles with specific font or you fail, no second chances, no do overs.

Hard to unlearn more than a decade of that. But this video is a little spot of light.

francis bacon is so fire they named an entire food out of his name

You beg me to write essays, my professor tells me I'll be a homeless crack addict if I don't write essays, my dad is standing at the kitchen table with the belt until I write the essay

Can't imagine where this perfectionism and anxiety is coming from, it's just so easy to think in this environment

There is a difference between having 80 tabs open to write a digital document and taking up an entire table in the library to hand write the same thing.

I have a intersex body development and after a lifetime of therapy, cancer and surgery I decided to put this down on paper for others who may be experiencing similar issues.
The more I wrote the clearer this subject became.
Now I draft many stories just for myself.
