What do we think? Could Thoralf be the next king of Yugioh? 👑

I say this EVERY Staple or Stinker... And I'm gonna keep doing it until it happens! You've gotta evolve the format to "Meme or Meta"... Showcase a small 2-3 card combo or demonstrate a loop, and have the contestant guess whether that combo is just a silly gimmick (meme) or actually a viable strat (meta).

"Two turns later doesn't exist in Yu-Gi-Oh!" Truer words have never been spoken. Toralf is getting it!

A "free" Fusion summon, filling your GY, baiting Spell removal from opp AND deck thinning! That is 3 of the best things to do in yugioh and also Fusion summoning!

Rule 3578 in Duel Academy: "You cannot stop a future fusion with a sanguine swamp"
This is exam relevant

Yu Gi Oh rules

1. if it sends cards to the graveyard, it's useful
2. if you can choose specifically what you send to the graveyard... it's broken
3. remember kids graverobbing may help you win in Yu Gi Oh... but it's highly illegal outside of it, mess with the grave responsibly

“Why was time seal a staple?”
‘Cause it was a garbage trap card.’
“…”

I head the effect of Future Fusion, and my card game brain immediately jumped too "Move cards from my deck to my 2nd hand? DEAL!"

Time Seal was never a Staple #JusticeForThorald

Should give Thoralf credit for time seal. That card is buns awful, the only reason it got banned was Konami cracking down on hand and draw control and grossly overcorrecting. People may have played it, but we also sucked at deck building in 2006. Modern understanding tells us that this card was terrible and should never have been played.

"If you activate a spell, could I use Breaker's effect to destroy it?"
Well, some players perhaps wouldn't STOP you...

Another powerful element for Future Fusion is that is forces the opponent to use removal asap. Yes, having those dragons in the GY is already super strong and you're probably gonna do your Darkness Metal Dragon combo, but if you don't remove it you're gonna have to deal with the dragon combo AND a 5k beatstick.

Time Seal was definitely not a good card lol. The best you could do with it was the Mask of Darkness loop, but that was a very gimmicky/janky strategy even for 2003-2005 standards. You would play Jar of Greed over it if you wanted a bluff trap, and you could even achieve the same result with Drop Off since GY wasn't a 2nd hand back then.

The main reason it was banned was because Konami was going against all the anti-hand cards they thought were too strong. It's similar to how they were hitting all the draw cards and they ended up semi-limiting "Good Goblin Housekeeping" since it also seemed very powerful on paper, once you pull off the dream scenario. But neither Seal nor Housekeeping were really that good. To be fair, Time Seal is definitely toxic card design, but it's not really giving you a competitive advantage and it's just there to be annoying.

In my heart, Thoralf got a point there ❣

3:45 good old infernity players. They were ahead of their time 🙂‍↕️

time seal was never that good even back then tbh. worse than yata in every way, unsearchable, slow, only way to loop it was a three card combo on a 3 turn setup. it got banned because it was annoying whenever said combo was pulled off

I always love watching the “magic player guesses yugioh cards” because I understand yugioh more than when I watch “yugioh players guesses magic cards” because I’ll be playing along

Thoralf is absolutely correct about Time Seal, even down to the reasoning for why it was bad.

25:33 'In... two turns, I believe it is' : spilling the beans about not caring about the fusion part already!

1900 attack on >=4 star back in the day was incredibly important. Breaker having a useful effect on top of coming on the field with 1900 was a cherry on top. A lot of old heads remember the days when Djinn and 7 Colored Fish, two 4 stars with 1800 attack and no effects were considered absolute staples for every deck. Breaker coming on the field at 1900 put him above these and Mechanical chaser with the added benefit of sniping a backrow mirror, swords of revealing light, or other nastiness giving him extreme value in utility in a meta where every deck started slowly turning into control decks. The spell counter only applying on normal summoning also had value in certain circumstances as well, your opponent could not special summon him from the graveyard and reap full benefits, making him an unviable quick pick for their monster reborn. Due to the older days of games lasting much longer the less on-the board-eesources you could potentially deny in the old metas the infinitely better, even something as miniscule as a 100 attack advantage over the generic beaters.

The combination of "2008" and "old school" made my soul leave my body 😂
