Why Europe Ruined America for This Expat | American Reacts

Europe Hits Different

Europe ruined America for me – in this video I react to a man born and raised in America giving his honest take on why living in Europe completely changed how he sees his home country.
It was a very enlightening and fresh look at what expats experience overseas. I agree with tons of what he says, but like always, I don’t agree with everything lol. The perspective on lifestyle, culture, pace of life, and the little things that hit different after living in Europe is really interesting.
As an American, this one made me think. Expats or people who’ve lived in Europe — how much do you relate? Drop your thoughts below! 🇺🇸

Usually, people who go around saying they are this or that or "number one", aren't.

We rarely talk about how fast we can go from Berlin to Poland...

I can only speak for Germany, but anyone who quits their job here doesn't receive any government financial assistance for the first three months.

UK guy here. I went to Missouri / st Louis a few years ago. I was warned not to go out for a walk around town, down to the river?? Wtf. I did. It was fine. Only problem is I saw nobody else. Nobody walks anywhere. Everything was by car, too far away, and the vibe was off. Almost what I imagine the air feels like in skinwalker ranch. I didn't like the vibe at all. Happy to be in the UK. ( And love Europe). P.s. Love Dusseldorf as well.

European, I lived in various countries in Europe, never heard of unemployment when you are leaving your job willingly, there are situations where your employer wants to fire people and you make a deal with them that benefits both parties in which case you can get unemployment and a lump amount from your employer as well, but quitting your job on your own and getting unemployment, that I've never heard...

I'm so glad he used the word immigrant and not "expat"

In Germany....when you get fired or quit, after 12 months of an official contract for employment,(I dont know if it includes the trial period) you have to register to the Agentur für Arbeit,(Federal Employment Agency) then you will have right to a year of 60% your previous salary, whilst actively "looking for a job", periodically you will receive "invitations" (forced appointments) with a representative, to explain your situation, its mandatory to attend. the cool thing is that if you have a business plan and you can presented in full you will get support from the government for one year to jumpstart said project

In the States, apparently, allegedly, if you miss your plane, you have to travel with a polka band called The Kenosha Kickers 😉

Unemployment in Germany is not paid by the government. It's a solidarity insurance where everybody pays in part of the income and can retrieve in need according to certain rules.

Here in Denmark if you're a member of a union, that union will pay you unemployment. Basically you have been paying to that union for exactly this. Kinda like an endurance. However if you quit your job, you'll be put in "quarantine" for 3 weeks (111 work hours) w/o any payout. This is why you always make sure to get fired, cause then the employer has to pay you 3 months of salary if you have been employed for more than 6 months. You will however have to be available to come in and do your job during them 3 months, usually that never happens tho. This goes up to 6 months pay if you have been at the company for over 9 years.

Yes, last year I willingly quit my well-paid job (which was really stressful) to travel to China for a month; afterwards, I came back to find another job. As I pay high taxes and am healthy, I wanted to enjoy the benefits of our system. I have paid more into the system than I have received, so I view it as a fair trade. I know that taxes go toward a pension which I may receive in the future, but as an old grandma, I am not sure that I will be able to handle traveling as I do now.

Dear Jacob and family, if you are planning to come to Europe, you can come with your family to my home. This year I am planning to move from the island of Ibiza to north Spain. You can come any time. You are going to love it.

What many Americans seem to forget, is that those "little European countries, smaller than a US-state", accomplish almost as much as the whole of the US economically, and almost by default score higher than any metric compared to the US when it comes to quality of life.

I am Dutch too and i am disabled. I receive a goverment pay of 75% of my last paycheck with extras untill I can officialy retire at 67. Till that time I can pay for everything I need and will not go bankrupt in the meanwhile. Thanks to the socialnetwork our governments and unions had agreed on decades ago. Safety for them who fall short. When i turn 67 I will receive my pension , where I have paid for since I was 25. Will not be the same but I can save up in between.

I like the US. I wish I can visit some time. But I watch these videos to remind me of how lucky I am, not only to live in Europe but 'the west.'

In Denmark you can leave your job. After 3 weeks you can sign on to unemployment however from the moment you sign on you need to be available to work and have to prove you are actively sending applications out. There is a specific amount of applications you need to send. Being on support is not necessarily relaxing as you need to have constant contact with the “system”. Love your channel !
