What Happened To Minnie Riperton Still Brings Tears To Fans

What happened to Minnie Riperton still brings tears to fans decades after her death. While other soul singers were conforming to radio-friendly formulas, Minnie pushed vocal boundaries that most considered impossible to achieve.

But at just 29 years old, when her voice was at its peak, a devastating diagnosis would silence the most extraordinary instrument in music history forever.

The decision to reveal her terminal diagnosis would inspire millions but cost her the privacy she desperately needed in her final days.

The legacy of Minnie Ripperton is a magical inspiration to a multitude of singers and her fans hold her close to their hearts forever!
BUT! Why use such a negative photo to tell the story!
Please don’t try to besmirch her beautiful legacy with this picture that is totally unrelated to her life!

We will never forget Minnie Riperton and her beautiful songs. I loved listening to her sing and all of the God given talent she was made of. She was brave and very courageous. I thank God that we had her in our lives and listened to her beautiful songs. She was a wonderful and beautiful person inside and out.

Minnie Riperton is still one of the greatest female singing voices of all time! This young lady had an amazingly versatile voice with 5+ octaves and was so much more than just her best known hit “Lovin’ You”. Minnie has both instagram and facebook fan pages with thousands of followers that anyone can join. RIP Minnie, we aim to keep your legacy alive!

I first heard her on the radio when I was living on the south side of Chicago. I bought her album, "Come to My Garden," and wore out two copies of that classic disc on vinyl. As luck would have it, many years later, I was in the TV studio when she appeared for one of her last televised broadcasts. She sang "Memory Lane." It was perfect for that moment.

What is really remarkable is how effortless she reached these high tones.

I finally get some of what happened, and I also finally get to cry 😢😢😢😢😢 what a voice. By the time I got around to start listening to the music about 13 years old, she had long gone about seven years of those.

Minnie's last name is pronounced "Rip-perton," not Ripe-erton. Get it right.

that clip art is extremely disrespectful to her and her legacy. how dare you defile her image with a picture like that.

I got to see her in CT. I went to see Weatherreport Minnie was their opening act. I had no idea who she was. I fell in love with her voice and became a fan. I still am. ❤

I’m 59 years old and I will never forget the exact location where I was standing (in my mother‘s living room) when I heard the devastating news that my cherished vocal idol had passed away. I was about 12 years old and I’m still heartbroken. I stumbled on a photo of my son #AndrewPounders who succumbed in 2011 at age 24 to Hodgkins Lymphoma. I sang “A Song For You” by Donny Hathaway at my son’s funeral. The legacy I created in Andrew’s memory #PositivePounders Is for families and young people who are diagnosed with devastating illnesses as teens and in young adulthood. I pray for the Riperton family and I’m so thankful for “The Voice” God gave you, that you shared with the world 🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽

Tive câncer de mama em 2023, aos 38 anos. Enfrentei uma batalha gigante, ainda luto, mesmo em remissão. Imagino o que essa mulher passou em 1976, pois os tratamentos eram precários.
