Her pleading at the end always gets me she knew she wouldn't be around for too much longer n all she wanted was more time..time with her husband and with her babies
Seeing this video as an adult, and understanding what she was going through at this time gives this song an entirely new context for me. God bless your resting soul, Minnie.
The video was filmed about a month before her passing, the cancer had got so bad that she couldn’t stand in the video! The tears in her eyes had to be 100% real, I’ll forever love this song and Minnie❤️💔❤️🩹😢😞
This video is deep. The song, on the surface, is about looking back at past memories from ones life, buts its much more than that. She is looking back at memories of her life, knowing she wouldn't be here for much longer. At the same time, it's almost like she's seeing into the future, looking through our eyes. She knew that one day, her loved ones/descendents and the world (us) would look back at her life, her works and her legacy with fondness, sadness, happiness, and gratitude. Her pleading for more life at the end is heartbreaking and reminds us that our lives here are fleeting. Thank you Minnie, for sharing your voice and your light with us. Wherever you are, I hope you are at peace.
Her breast cancer was advanced in this video. Metastasis. It spread to her right side. She had lymphoma in her right arm. That's why u never see her right arm. They hid it. I know. My mom had the exact same except it spread to her left. She still came and sang that video in so much pain. Physically, mentally and emotionally.....
This is so heartbreaking when you know that she died about a month after it was filmed when you realize that she couldn’t move her right arm because of the cancer she’s turning the pages and holding a book with her left hand and holding her right arm up with her leg, you can see in her eyes, the pain of knowing that she will be leaving her husband and her babies and her pleading to be saved at the end is just heart, wrenching rest in power Ms Ripperton
it’s July 6, 2025 and I just watched about her on unsung and did not know the pain she was in. This song makes so much sense, she was crying for help and to be saved. RIP sweet Minnie Riperton ❤
