Gargoyles wasn’t your typical Disney Afternoon cartoon. While other shows were lighthearted and goofy, Gargoyles went dark. From Demona’s terrifying transformation, to the tragic massacre of the Wyvern Clan, to the chilling hatred of the Hunter’s Moon trilogy — this was Disney’s boldest and most disturbing series ever.

In this video, we’re diving into the most disturbing moments in Gargoyles that Disney tried to hide. These are the storylines that scarred a generation, pushed the limits of kids’ TV, and still shock us decades later.

If you grew up on Gargoyles, this deep dive will bring back memories you probably forgot… and maybe show you the parts Disney didn’t want you to notice.

If you enjoy this kind of nostalgic deep dive, don’t forget you can drop a Super Thanks right here on YouTube — it really helps support the channel so I can keep making videos like this!

I put Keith David as Goliath on my Mount Rushmore of favorite cartoon vo actors with: Kevin Conroy's Batman and Peter Cullen's Optimus.

Macbeth holding a comatose Demona over a sharpened spike ready to drop her to kill them both (“I am just so tired”) and within 5 minutes Demona saying with a tear “The access code is ALONE.” after coming to the temporary realization all her pain and suffering was originally self inflicted. Powerful drama from an animated show.

The other thing about Demona is that she is pretty much always awake? I don’t know if we think about how that puts stress on the brain

The show had such a great script.

Demona to Macbeth: My consolation is that our magical link allows you to suffer as well.

Yep, the bold moves of this Disney show sure was ahead of it's time. Demona has always bee my favourite character given her situation. Her transformation was always cool to behold. Totally one of the best animated shows of the 90s. I only wish Disney hadn't cancel this show and just give it a more proper series finale/ending.....

Gargoyles was no.surprise for a 19 year old Black man growing up in the hood...it was a rich story line that was captivating and that I could relate to because the themes of the show was right outside my front door. And I loved the entire series and remember them well.

I like Demona wanting to protect Angela.

Honestly I always hoped Demona would have been reformed in some way she was terrifying yes but I always wish she would have been rescued from her hate in some way. No for me the darkest moments were with the cop lady it was clear she and Goliath had done unresolved romantic tension but the things that scare was her accidentally being shot with her own gun due to a curious gargoyle that didn’t know how dangerous they were and the time the cop lady was transformed into a Gargoyle and it was a race against time to change her back before it would become permanent

Demona was just as genocidal towards Humanity as Phaeton was in Exo-Squad.

Demona is the best Disney villain, and she is really evil.

City of Stone, after Demona broadcast a spell that made most of the people in New York turn to stone at night gargoyle style, she took a little personal time to walk through the streets while gleefully blasting petrified humans to bits.

It showed, more aspects of human feelings than any prior or since. It literally, turned creatures of the night, which otherwise would be considered evil, and made them the sole searching good guys at times. Its most controversial episode to me, was when Broadway accidentally shot Elise when handling her gun like a toy.

Excellent gargoyle reviews as always. But respectfully weren't a lot of these things covered in previous videos? I feel like this channel has been repeating a lot of the same material.

8:22-8:28 Well, yeah. Episodes of those shows always wrapped up in lighthearted and humourous ways. But even these shows with light tones touched upon pretty complex themes from time to time. I sure remember some dark stuff from there. But yeah, overall they were lighthearted whereas "Gargoyles' went full dark

The fact that the massacre came in the first episode or 2nd one, the show wasn't even out of the gate and was tearing holes into our little souls. and that wasn't the last time we got hit with a gargoyle WTF moment. When Demona knew what was going to happen and hide herself crying, knowing her clan would be massacred, but saved herself. that was so heavy stuff.

i always thought the episodes where demona casts the spell on the humans making them turn to stone then destroying them at night was disturbing as hell as a kid

The episode in the Goliath Chronicles where Thailog and his clone clan (Brentwood, Hollywood, Malibu, Burbank, Delilah) all succumbed to that cloning virus. Goliath shed a tear and grieved because that was still family.

When I first watched Gargoyles, I thought that it was from the same animators of Batman from 1991. It was a surprise to me when I discovered that Gargoyles was a Disney franchise. The Disney logo was NEVER shown in my country (Brazil).
