this intro coming just after little K's breakdown in the Armageddon challenge feels fortuitously timed

Grey Knights come out of the box already grey. That's a pretty good start

I dont hate painting my miniatures. The problem is my pc looks at me and whispers " come play space marine 2 " and before I know it, I have crushed many, many,  tyranid skulls and somehow I run out of time to paint 😅 nice video guys o7

A case can be made for knights. If you spray the armor panels sperate from the body, and just dry brush the body silver, that can work well

I think what GW do incredibly well, is designing army's (Like Necrons and custodes mentioned) that can be done incredibly quickly and simple, but for people wanting to take them to a whole new level, can do.
The armies can fall in both camps, just depends on the painter

Also Ad Mech has a reputation for being hard to paint but that’s another one where you can paint most of the troops quickly if you want and they look fine. Just base coat black, dry brush silver, then fill in the cloak with red.

See my problem is I see custodes and think “how can I make them pearlescent?”

That side-by-side Ork model comparison was very well done and wild to see how far that particular range has come!

Ork vehicles are a cheat - spray metallic, sponge on your main colour (not going all the way to the edges), add some weathering. Done.

Craftworld Aeldari can be done super simple too for generic units.

I agree with tyranids. You can quickly get an army together that isn’t going to win awards but looks easily good enough that people at the local game store will tell you it looks nice as they walk by your table.

I think Death Guard are a good contender. They do have a lot of little details, with gross mutations and stuff, but the core of the army is still dudes in armour and they take especially well to being grimed up.  Streaking grime will make quick work of them.

Really loving the production quality of the vid, you boys have outdone yourself.

Can confirm, first army was tyranids, and it was pretty easy to jump in with no experience. Second army was sororitas.... and I got so fed up with painting all their little details that I sold them before I finished.

Necrons was my exercise in painting fast. Went with a oxidized copper look. All over copper base, turqoise oil wash, stippled bright pale green weathering, basing paste, black rims, no glow effects. Fifteen minutes per model. Did 35 in a weekend and they look half decent. I'll buy more if I see any good second hand listings

I would Love to see a Race Between You two have to paint one miniature in each faction

As a tyranid players, tyranids can either take ages to paint because of all their nooks and ridges you could try to paint really well, ooorrr super fast with drybrush and contrast. As long as you don't try and make a horde army with nods, yes they can be very good for a quick army.

I agree with the space marines.
I’m currently doing the Blood Angels from the Armageddon box. The can be so easily cheesed with a rattle can of mephiston red and some abbadon black.
What makes the biggest difference is using some nuln oil as a recess shade and then doing some edge highlights. An orange paint for the edge highlights makes the red much warmer and pops.

Bonus mid-week content! Lovely surprise

Making my first ever army a horde army like Necrons 8 years ago was probably the worst idea in hindsight. When I first started, to make my life and first time more difficult I decided not to go with a traditional paint scheme and went with a custom one. Had I done the silver tide Crons for example, this army and collection would have been finished a couple years ago now haha. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the paint scheme I made and am very proud of the over 6k points of Necrons I have so far, but there's that little part of me that wished I had made a more strategic decision at the beginning lol. My paint scheme isn't anything too difficult, but it does require a few more paints than what you would normally have for one of the GW's Necron dynasty paint schemes. Also, yeah armies like Necrons and Tyranids are gonna have you painting the same metal or carapace for a very long time and it can become a bit stale after a while. Pacing yourself with breaks and other projects does help a ton, and that was something I had to learn the hard way and not think I needed to just get through it to finish it. I still wanted to enjoy my favorite army after all and not make it feel like a choir. One thing I promised myself after slogging through 2k+ points of painted Crons in 10th ed, was that I would never do a horde army ever again, much less make it a massive collection like mine is now.
