at the time as I kid, I didn't think anything if this, but now, hearing Lance Russell praise Joey Styles and say names like Tommy Dreamer and Sand Man is like an alternate reality
Lawler absolutely on fire with his promo regarding shooting on Heyman here. The tension they build in the first 15 minutes slays any WWF/ECW collaboration.
I grew up in Philly, so I watched ECW regularly and went to many of the local shows. I followed USWA through the wrestling magazines (or the "Apter Mags" as they're known as now) for years since we didn't get USWA on our local tv (unless you had cable). That is, until around 1997 when it aired late Friday nights on WTGW-48 (which also aired ECW). We started getting USWA a little while before the ECW angle started up, so I was fortunate to get to see all of this play out as it happened from week to week. Great times.
The brilliance of Memphis booking is that Jerry Lawler was explaining why he was refusing to answer the question @57:45, while telling Brian Christopher that he was not going to answer either, along with Lawler physically stopping Christopher from answering the question. This, along with his subsequent actions, actually ends up answering the question though if you follow the bread crumbs. The absolute brilliance of the angle is that both guys, arguing, came across exactly like a dad might've handled a disagreement with his kid in the South on a Saturday morning, LOL. Anyway, this was compelling television to watch in 2026.
