there were a few seconds without animal facts.

Apple Pencils sadly have no defense mechanisms.

Maya is singlehandedly curing short attention spans. I've used your last two videos about mating when teaching my year 12 biology class as a reward and they absolutely love them, only videos I've seen them watch all the way through and not start to get bored or fidgety. Will definitely be showing them this one too! Might lead to some future entomologists...

hi guys hagfish fun fact a high school student started developing gauze bandages from the slime they secrete in an effort to be more environmentally friendly!!!!! super cool research

When their nest is threatened, the North American robin will fly up high and then DIVE beak first into their adversary. I've seen these tiny birds beating up magpies, red tailed hawks, cats, you name it. They're absolutely ruthless. My mom witnessed a pair force a magpie (a highly intelligent predator at least 4x bigger than a robin) to WALK out of her neighbourhood, across an extremely busy main street. They wouldn't let it fly.

wait is maya lowkey convincing me to be an entomologist rn

hagfish slime is also crazy in that it's almost entirely sea water. The hagfish itself only secretes a small amount of substance, but that substance mixes and reacts with the water around it to form the slime. The slime is also incredibly strong, so much that it's been dried and woven into fabrics. It's like if you put a jello packet in a full bathtub and it turned the whole thing into one massive soggy spider web. Also if you noticed in the clip with the shark, the hagfish waited until it was actively being eaten to activate its slime defense. This is because hagfish are effectively blind and can't see predators coming until they're literally right there, and also because their skin is so flaccid and detached from their bodies that they can kind of just squish out of the way of the predator's teeth and not sustain any permanent damage.

This was the perfect video for my lunch break

10:59 “He knows no fear… possible cus he have no brain” I CANT XD😭😭

This is literally the shit I subscribed for. The editing, the production quality, Maya’s absolute joy when talking about wildlife, can’t wait to watch her for the next 20 years honestly.

HELL YEAH WEIRD ANIMAL FACTS ARE WHAT I LIVE FOR

Maya taught me that bugs are cool unless you're a northern giant hornet, then you punch it in the face!

Side note about the Almond/Cherry smelling centipede at 13:30 - the reason there's likely a debate about the two scents is because Almond Extract is the flavor of Artificial Cherry. So intense almond flavor/scent is what's most commonly associated with things like cherry ice cream and the like.

0:26 mom i’m famous

im autistic and is obsessed with animals, and i had a really long month, and you've just made my YEAR for sure.. I LOVE THIS VID, not only are these good facts to scare away my friends, but also i love listening to this kinda stuff, and also ur really funny :D so ty!! 🪲🪱

Maya, you are a good educator. When that is combined with Danny as editor, it just takes it to the next level. 👍

shooting poisonous blood out of your eyes is one of the most hardcore defense mechanisms ive ever seen in my life. thats so badass

The editing is so good, but also super chaotic and perfect for zoomers. 10/10 execution

I enjoyed every second of you talking about animals I've never heard before. Green screen is something. Slime eel is terrifying. Please do more of this I love your channel

The SEA C*M reaction at 11:39 was hilarious. The whole video was very funny and informative too. Well done
