In this Road to Master episode, I take you through a wild and instructive game starting from the Bird's Opening, which transposes into a mainline reserved Leningrad structure.
Out of the opening, I felt very comfortable. I knew the typical ideas well and when my opponent deviated with a few inaccuracies, I managed to build up a tremendous kingside initiative. The position quickly became sharp and full of attacking chances.
However, this is where things got difficult.
The winning continuations required deep and precise calculation and over the board I simply couldn’t find the right lines. Instead of converting the advantage, I let it slip… and eventually the game spirals into a losing endgame.
📌 In this video you’ll learn:
Key ideas in the Bird / Leningrad Dutch structures
How to handle kingside attacking positions
Why calculation can be the deciding factor in sharp positions
Critical missed winning continuations explained in depth
Practical alternatives and how to approach similar positions
This is a very honest and instructive game, a great example of how knowing the ideas is sometimes not enough if the calculation doesn’t follow.
If you’re interested in dynamic, attacking chess and want to improve your understanding of these complex structures, this one is definitely worth watching.
