When we talk about crazy attacks, the first names that come to mind are Mikhail Tal, Rashid Nezhmetdinov, David Bronstein, and others. But there was a player who attacked probably even more wildly and creatively: the Slovenian-Yugoslav grandmaster Albin Planinc.
“Why haven't we heard his name, then?” you might ask. The reason is that Planinc's active chess career lasted only about 10 years. Tragically, he suffered from mental illness and spent the last 20 years of his life in a mental institution. And as a result, this extraordinary player gradually faded from the chess world's memory.
Yet during his relatively short career, Planinc created a number of fantastic masterpieces. And with this video, I'm beginning a series on his best games. To introduce him to you, I've chosen an absolutely incredible game that I came across by chance in an article.
