Suhr Classic S Paulownia
In today's video, Paul from The Studio Rats is continuing the series on finding the perfect Super Strat, Today's guitar is the Suhr Classic S Paulownia. Suhr guitars tend to come up a bit heavy in weight, (normally around 8+ lbs) in 2021 Suhr decided to do a limited run of Paulownia guitars. Paulownia is a very lightweight, very resonant wood, which brings this guitar down to a perfect gigging weight of 6.6lbs. I feel these are the best guitars Suhr has ever made, This is no longer available from SUHR, as Paulownia is very hard to work with, so if you see one id haighky recommend trying or even better buying it.

Thomann have 2 still available brand new, link below.

I’ve got a custom Suhr that I’ve had for about 18 months now. Ever since it arrived I’ve barely touched my other guitars. It’s just awesome, worth every penny.

Confirming what you said about Suhr making no more guitars out of this wood, I spoke with John Suhr himself, and he told me the same thing - it's too hard to source and work with, which is a real shame, because this guitar is the best strat I've ever played.

I commented on one of your other videos that everything you play sounds the same regardless of guitar or amp. That comment was meant positively and not as a slam. It just goes to show that your hands and technique are consistent. HOWEVER, this is the first guitar I have ever heard you play that I can actually hear a fundamental tonal difference. Of course when you change pickup positions but there is something different about the tone in a very good way. Nice!

I have had about 10 Suhrs over the years and the one thong I rarely hear people talk about is how stiff they play. Much harder to bend strings on them regardless of setup. They almost feel like an acoustic guitar with how the strings respond to picking or strumming. I wish there was a way to remedy it. I tried sting trees, deeper trem block, different springs. I believe it is just that the woods are so dense and resonate along with the tight neck pocket and tolerances that nothing on the guitar ever moves, thus the strings feel tight and brittle due to zero flex or give across the guitar.

Suhr is like a smaller version of PRS. Insanely well built beautiful (and expensive) guitars, that a lot of people bad mouth because they think they are just for show, or for rich people who don’t really play. I will agree that most Suhrs I’ve had are quite heavy, which is why I tend to gravitate more to other brands, but they are great guitars.

Excellent playing. You make this guitar sound so amazing, I want to send my Suhr to you to hear it's true capabilities, haha.

suhr guitars are really good instruments, quality is on the top of the game.

PRS Fiore and EBMM Cutlass would be good candidates for your "Ultimate Super Strat".

That is such a great soundiung guitar. You're spot on as well about guitars needing a wee while to settle in, a lot of folk don't seem to realise that.

Best one yet. Fits you well.

That is a keeper!

I received this guitar about a week ago and could not be happier.

It is quintessentially Suhr. Perfect fit and finish and supreme playability.

Strat tone is on point.

But what sets this guitar apart is the feel. The elusive “magic” quality that we all look for is here in spades. My hands “miss” the feeling of playing this guitar as I go about my day.

I have four other fine guitars that have been overshadowed: CS Strat, CS Thinline Tele, PRS CE 24, and Suhr Modern. They are all great but will most likely be sold to fund the purchase of a worthy amp.

Thanks for steering me toward this incredible instrument!

My custom Suhr is roasted swamp ash with a flame maple top and is super light.

This series of videos is becoming a really great resource for those looking to get an instrument of this style.
Keep up the great work dude.
P.S. I’d love to know how many instruments have been purchased as a result of this super Strat journey?!? 😅

So true about setting up guitars, It can take awhile for the wood to adjust to the climate and tension. Once settled in...Play away! As always, great playing and demo Paul!
