Ischgl is a ski resort in Tyrol, Austria. It may not be as well known as Kitzbuhel, or St. Moritz or Zermatt in Switzerland, but in my opinion, it should be.

Mountain Layout - Ischgl is one of the largest ski areas in Austria. It's spread over multiple peaks and valleys, which can challenge your sense of orientation when looking at the trail map. There are often arrows on the trail map to help you determine which direction a slope runs. Ischgl has terrain for every level of skier and snowboarder, and there's a lot of it. The slopes sit over two resorts - Ischgl in Austria and Samnaun in Switzerland. Notably, Samnaun has a famous "duty free" shopping run, slope 80. And then there's my favorite in Ischgl, the ultra modern looking E5 tram.

Town - The town of Ischgl can be divided into two, with the main part being at the base of the A1 gondola, and the other part at the base of the A2 and A3 gondolas, which is where I stayed. There's a famous tunnel with a moving walkway between the two parts. It's plastered with posters of famous musicians who have performed at Ischgl. There are shops, restaurants, bars, and accommodations on either side of the tunnel, though considerably more at the A1 base.

Chairlift Tickets - If you have the Ikon Pass, you can ski or snowboard Ischgl/Samnaun for 7 days.  If you buy a pass at the resort, the walk-up price in February 2025 for 7 days was 449 Euros for 8 days. Very inexpensive when compared to North American ski resorts.
