Let me know what yall are having for dinner while watching this. Probably not seafood

@10:21 You left out the best part. The movie explicitly states that the mayor’s injuries could have been survivable, but because emergency services were overwhelmed by the catastrophe he caused, there was nobody left to tend to him. He got his own special version of Karma in the end 🎉

I find the most chilling part of The Bay is that it isn't really a monster feature. No-ones getting chased and eaten by bugs or anything. Everyone who dies is already infected by the time the film starts. They're all already doomed and none of them realise it.

The intro captures why I prefer supernatural horror. As long as I don’t desecrate tombs, read Latin books out loud, summon demons, or murder the town outcast, I can sleep at night.

This film becomes less of a found footage thriller & closer to a cautionary environmental documentary every year.

I grew up on the Chesapeake Bay, and we were always told to never go swimming with open wounds because of how bad the water quality was. One time when I was a little kid, I accidentally swallowed a bunch of water and ended up puking my guts out in an ice cream shop later that day. So yeah when I watched this movie back in 2020 it ended up giving me a panic attack lol

6:58 The guy who plays the cop on the right is my moms best friend from high school. He still keeps her updated on all his movies to this day so she can watch them but I had no idea about this one until I saw his face😭

an old teacher of mine got struck by a carjack that flew off the back of a truck. she survived but required numerous facial reconstructions. driving behind trucks is no joke

Giant isopods do exist, as do parasitic isopods, but thankfully they are very different species of isopod and the parasitic ones (as far as I’m aware) do not burrow through their hosts

I was 12. I was visiting an uncle who lived in a swampy area of South America. We went fishing. We caught some fish. We got back home and I was accompanying my older cousins who were tasked by my aunt to clean the fishes. One of my cousins says "hey, check this out" and motioned me to come closer and look at one of the fish. There was an isopod where the fish's tongue should have been. This was 15 years ago, and to this day, cymothia exigua is one of the most disgusting things I've ever had the displeasure to see IRL. When I heard this movie existed, I squirmed. I decided I'd never watch it. So thanks, Nightmare Movies. I now know the gist of what happens in it. Thought that'd never happen, because I absolutely hate these little things.

10:28 you're telling me that the camera man doesn't survive in a horror movie!!?

I went camping recently and got stuck behind a logging truck going uphill on a 2 lane highway. Ugh.

Legit screamed when the isopod crawled out of the fish mouth & up the guys arm
So gross

Ok just had to point this out for the literary and theatre people out there; the main conflict here is that the water is poisoned by the town's main industry and the Mayor (who knows all about it) is named Mayor Stockman. In Henrik Ibsen's play "An Enemy of the People" (great English adaptation by Arthur Miller) the Mayor of a small town is warned by his brother (a doctor) that the water of the town's spring resort is poisoned. The Mayor's name? Stockman.

13:38 this is the real crux of why found footage films are actually very hard to make. There needs to be a justifiable reason as to WHY the characters are filming everything. Dash cam footage, security cameras and video diaries all make sense but a huge amount of these movies have to shove an "investigative reporter" into the mix just to have a reason to film half the stuff in the movie.

When an Isopod takes over a tongue, what's their favorite note to sing in?
Sea major!

7:28 just to make everyone sleep easier, the two feet isopod is real, but it is not parasitic, it's just a scavenger and ocasional predator.

In real life Giant Isopods are super chill scavengers, like the oceans Roomba. Theres even an aquarium where you can go and pet them but I warn you the water is very cold because they live very deep in the ocean... yes, there are smaller species that infect fish and it's really sad for the fish, but they dont eat it alive, nor do they pose a threat to hoomans

I made the mistake of trying to watch this movie  during the pandemic lmao

The scariest part I thought was the earlier scene when the first victim was revealed. They built everything up as if it was another beautiful sunny day, everyone’s having a blast with each other. Then BOOM there goes the lady and her rash. The suspense was real.
