Correction: we had 300 meters of elevation gain to go, but still 1-kilometer of the trail left (out of 4.3 km). That'll be around an hour and a half of hiking to the summit.

It takes a lot of bravery to know when its not the right time.

As someone who is going to do this next month, I have been glued to Reddit and Youtube for tips on how to be prepared for this hike. I've read all kinds of stories about how you have to be massively prepared, or... that everyone is over preparing. It has had me a little anxious about the preparation, because I want to have everything I need, yet I don't want to overload with stuff I won't use and make my journey more difficult. It really seems in the end, no matter how much you prepare, the weather may have different things in mind

I feel for you. My family and I tried to climb Mt. Fuji 10 years ago (for my 50th birthday), and the same thing happened—got to our hut at 3400M, stayed the night, and the next morning the weather was too bad to continue. But we went back this year and got to the summit.

I feel your excitement at 8:12  I dont like getting up early, just to go see the sunrise.

This happened to me in 2014. I also did not have proper rain gear. LOL. It went from - "WOW I am so unprepared" to hmmm "I might die of the cold" real fast.

Start the hiker when it's  dark in the morning around 4 or 5 am  and push it trought until you reach your hutte at peak is my advice if you found a really good stable weather day.  Do breaks of course.never start you basicly starts the tour too late.
I made once in 12 hour level 4 scramble/hike tour the same mistake and around 9 PM our parkspot.
This track is may long ,but very easy and super safe. If you use poles you can really speed up and if you have good endurence you can slow run easy sections for saving time.
A two or 3 day hiketrip can be risky and sometimes unpredictible. It was good to walk down.

I had to turn back at the 7th Station once.  

The peak is nice, but the goal is always getting back to the bottom.

You can try again next year.

My wife and I were lucky enough to summit in 2024. We booked 2 consecutive days for the mountain huts. It turns out to be the correct decision. It rain on one of the days and we just hiked on the day with the sunny weather. You made a good decision coming down Fuji. Now you can try to summit again!

Well, it’s not your fault if the weather is bad, but with that kind of rain and altitude I personally would’ve summited it but I’m a seasoned alpine climber. I climbed Fuji nearly 20 years ago with my oldest son who was 6 years old at the time.
