I was an 8 year old kid back then.. watching on TV.. 43 runs needed in about 53 balls with 8 wickets in hand.. Still cant believe why the west indies team could not win..
I am watching this after 30 years today in 2026.cant beleive thirty years passed by.that 1996 world cup was a great memory.those days cricket is always great despite not having technology.i was 13 years old at that time glued to tv.not to forget ambrose bowling ian bishop bowling Steve waugh mark waugh Micheal bevan are great icons who are missed today and Tony grieg Richie benaud Micheal holding commentary is world class
WI middle order was the worst in this WC. They collapsed against IND, KEN, AUS(SF) and SA as well but won against them due to SA's own middle order collapse.
They were heavily dependent on Lara, Chanderpaul and Richardson. Carl Hooper's withdrawal before WC impacted their squad.
This is the match that decisively made Australia a superpower of cricket for decades to come. Had it not been for that last half an hour, the future of cricket might have been different. Watching these highlights brought back so many memories, but also made me sad. Cricket needs a good West Indies side. Walsh and Ambrose are my favorite fast bowlers of all time, to this day.
What a clutch bowler fleming was. Bowled the last over against south africa when klusner was in full swing and here as well bowling the last over when richie richardson was hitting the ball well.
