A No Country for Old Men prequel should show Anton Chigurh before discipline made him almost invisible.

In 1972, county archivist Elena Ruiz discovers evidence that a younger Anton Chigurh participated in a contract killing. Chigurh is already cold and frightening, but he is less patient, more impulsive and still capable of leaving a paper trail.

Built with the procedural tension of The Day of the Jackal, The Unspent Coin follows Elena as she divides the evidence across buses, mailrooms and state archives while Chigurh crosses West Texas to erase her and the file.

The story never explains his childhood or the origin of the coin. It shows how one failed attempt to destroy evidence could have taught him the discipline we see in 1980.

Would you want to see this younger, less cautious Anton Chigurh, or should his past remain unseen?
