The Indian actress received being called “fair” as a compliment and even told the reporter “thank you”. This speaks volumes.

I was born dark, so everybody accused my mother for eating the wrong things when she was pregnant. Imagine hearing this when youre like just a toddler.

My mom was born in southern India in 1940 - small, and dark.  The stigma was so terrible - her mother said she would never get married.  Well - she became a nurse and moved to Canada and married the whitest guy. Then when I was born - I was “fair” and that gave her no end of  relief.  Breaks my heart to hear that young woman say horrible things about herself because she has darker skin - she’s so pretty.  I can only imagine how my mom suffered.  Rest in peace mom.

When the actress said "thank you so much" on being called a 'fair' girl. It spoke everything. Thats the mentality right there.

In Asia, tanned skin is associated with labouring, outdoors in the fields.
In the West, tanned skin is associated with exotic holidays and leisure activities

The girl explaining that she can’t get a job because of her skin is heartbreaking.

The actress said "Thank you" at 5:40 when the reporter called her "very fair". It verifies how fair skin is considered better or that being fair is something to be proud of. Colorism is prevalent in Indian society and it's gonna take a long time to change people's mindset.

Nobody's gonna talk about how trash those actors were in that audition.

This piss me off on how they don’t use the actual Indian models when there’s plenty of gorgeous Indian women out there. All because of skin color?! It’s Stupid!

I dated a punjabi girl once. She was was fair-skinned.  I have fair skin and I consider myself black. She once said that I'm not like the other black guys and she really liked my skin tone. She was  afraid to get darker and made a huge deal about not allowing sunlight to touch her skin. She got a lot of attention;  hundreds of likes on facebook posts, guys etc. but she had all the insecurities. Not matter what I did. That East indian culture is no joke. It creates tensions for both Men and female on what is perceived as ideal and attractive. It's sad that a lot of people let this skin whitening get to their heads to the point where they end up treat other people like dirt. I'm with a beautiful dark-skinned woman now. My life has never been better.

The interviewer tells the girl that she's fair and the girl says "noooooooo, but thank you so much." So it's a compliment in the girl's perspective but in reality it wasn't a compliment....it was a statement.

girl: "THANK YOU SO MUCH"


that answer literally proved the whole point of the research/documentary.

“You think I’m fair? Thank you very much” lol- that says it all. That chick was a walking embodiment of the culture

unfortunately, this bias will never go completely

As being an Indian, I am ashamed to live in a society where people are judged by their :-
1. Skin.
2. Caste.
3. Income.

Her mom said “you’re so black, you won’t get a guy”,  but they themselves are black & got a guy 🤦🏻‍♀️

the actress was trying to avoid the question while simultaneously ironically being proud about being called fair 😐 at least the guy didn’t BS at the end...
