Coraline’s Other Mother Is Much Worse Than You Remember

Coraline’s Other Mother is far more disturbing than she first appears. But what exactly is the Beldam, and what does she really want from Coraline?
The Other Mother doesn’t simply hunt children. She watches them, learns what they want, creates a perfect version of their lives and waits until they willingly enter her world.
But behind the food, games, gifts and button eyes is something much darker.
In this video, we break down the Beldam from the Coraline movie, including her true form, the Other World, the ghost children, the Coraline doll, the Other Father, Other Wybie, her powers, her weaknesses, the meaning behind the buttons and what may actually happen to the children she captures.
We also explore one of the biggest mysteries surrounding the character: what is the Beldam really?
Was she once human?
Is she an ancient witch?
A supernatural shapeshifter?
Or something that has always existed inside the Other World?
And perhaps even more disturbing… why does she need children in the first place?
The movie never gives us one simple answer, which is exactly what makes the Other Mother such a fascinating horror villain.
If you enjoy horror lore, movie theories, monster breakdowns, Coraline theories and dark animation, subscribe for more.
The section about her possible origin comes quite late in the video, after establishing how her world, powers and feeding behavior work, which makes the mystery build naturally rather than giving away the conclusion immediately.
