An 'English' (?) muffin (in the UK we just call them 'muffins'!), is NOTHING like a crumpet.. Why do so many Americans say this? Firstly, a MAJOR difference: a muffin is made with dough, while a crumpet is made with batter -  Muffins use a firm, kneaded yeast dough, while crumpets use a loose, pourable baking-soda or yeast batter... which releases gas to make the famous 'holes'! Also, 'high tea' is NOT the same as 'afternoon tea'... A 'high tea' is a LOT MORE of a substantial meal, with meats, meat pies, stews, vegetables and similar 'hearty foods'.

Crumpets aren't the same as English muffins! They are spongy with lots of holes, and when you toast them and put butter on them, it melts and fills the holes. Very nice.

Pork pie is not "buttery". Hot water pastry, that is what that delious crust is called, is made with lard.
