The MiniDisc still looks really cool. I wish everything from the CD to Blu Rays came in a protective casing like that. So much room for creative packaging.
I work at a small AM radio station and we still use Minidisc on occasion! In fact, we have a very similar Sony that's been used and abused over the last 20+ years and it still works great. Didn't realize that they had an impact on the consumer market!
I've fallen completely in love with Minidisc, my collection is growing by the day and I'm really enjoying it! I'm delighted that you've published a new video on this medium that I love so much!
I’m really glad to see that people still own minidiscs and use this technology to listen to music. I was a huge fan of CDs, and I still am. However, I recently got a minidisc deck, and now I use CDs for full albums while creating my best “mixtapes” on minidiscs.
I recovered an interview recorded on minidisc for a local radio station once, as they had accidentally erased it. You had to take the cover off a player, record a full length single track minidisc, let the player read toe table of contents of the disc, then without powering down, remove the disc and insert the accidentally recorded one, this tricked the player and you could then play the erased one as one long single track (as long as it hadn’t been recorded over).
For about 6 years I hung around the goodwill outlet. In that time, I collected a lot of media and HiFi equipment. I only found about 30 minidiscs and 2 prerecorded discs (Aerosmith and Bruce Springsteen). I never did find a Minidisc player. Walking into a Savers or Value Village and picking up a minidisc player off a shelf is a rare find!
I had one. What a pleasure to use it ! Not like today's glitchy apps , you pushed a button, you felt the click , and did what you commanded to instantly.
I loved MiniDisc. I had a recorder and made my own mix discs for the car, where I had an in-dash minidisc player. I still have a recorder and all my old discs, but sadly the stereo in the car was stolen. I live in the the USA, btw, and never understood why more people didn't accept this amazing format.
I was introduced to MiniDisc in 1995 at college and instantly fell in love. We used them for audio cues and had a professional Sony deck. With the earlier models I could hear the compression in certain music passages, but with the later models, the improved ATRAC (and my aging ears lol) I couldn't really tell anymore. We were still using MiniDisc for cues in 2003, and by that time I was all in on the format and I still love it today. My only regret was not buying many more pre-recorded albums that were available back then at our local Best Buy. At the time I was even looking into a car stereo MD deck, but just couldn't afford one, so I took my portable MD and the Cassette to CD adapter with me :) Love your channel and great video as always!
