This is a horror film where you witness a man falling apart — not by lashing out, but by holding everything in. OMG, Casey Affleck’s performance feels incredibly real. He totally deserves an Oscar

“He looks sad right now-Bryce” “well he got divorced so maybe he lost his kids-Zuff” you could say say that Zuff, you could say that 😭😭😭

This movie depicts grief really well

the most heart breaking part is the instant pulling of the trigger when the gun gets to his head. there was zero hesitation. he wanted to be gone.

i love watching bryces face go :/ whenever zuff says something untrue lollll

The scene between Lee and Randi is just one of the most raw, devastating encounters I've ever seen in a film. It feels so real, and the way she says, "You can't just die!" like it's ripping her soul out is amazing. She deserved the Oscar nod just for the delivery of that line.

Casey Affleck is incredible in this. One the my favorite and best actors around.

This is literally one of my favorite movies!  The portrayal of grief in it and Casey affleck’s acting is just *chefs kiss*!! I’m so glad yall decided to react to it!!

The scene in the police station rips me to shreds every single time 😢

I haven’t been able to actually rewatch this one since I first saw it so this was the best way for me to do it, such a good but tough watch

“I can’t beat it.” I’ve lost a lot of people in my life over the last 4 yrs. I sometimes hear those words. When the blankets weigh a hundred pounds. 😢

''You can't just die''.... Man that line hit hard. The way grief is shown in this movie, is like no other. It feels so real, because it does not use the usual Hollywood tropes. They don't have to squish into our face, that someone is sad, by a long crying scene with sad music. You just see and feel it, by the general acting.

Fucking brutal but one of the best films I've ever seen. so realistic - the actualized grief Casey Affleck portrays on the screen. It definitely encapsulates New England too - the humor during the worst moments. The relationship between Patrick and his Uncle - the water representing healing. Sublime.

I love this movie. The script is so good…the little flashes of humor in the face of unimaginable grief and loss. As the mom of three kids, it tears me apart every time, but I love it.

The whole fire scene is so heartbreaking with the song and everything happening in the background, like a nightmare.

I saw this movie in theaters without knowing anything about it, the fire scene hit me like a punch to the gut, it was hard to react. Great and heartbreaking film.

I was depressed for like 2 days after watching this. It’s good, but sad and shows that life is really hard sometimes and there isn’t always happy endings.

This movie is the most realistic depiction of grief. For anyone who’s lost someone it hits hard.

Michelle Williams in her final scene was some of the best acting I’ve ever seen - it’s really the only time I can recall where for just a split second I forgot I was watching someone act and I actually turned away from the screen because it felt like when you walk in on someone having a painful moment, like I was intruding on her private pain.

And also “I can’t beat it.” Sometimes there’s no triumphal happy ending, sometimes you’re just defeated, but of course even for people who’ve been flattened life still goes on.
