The fast pace and style of humor take some getting used to, but the story's so enthralling, the world and characters so fascinatingly weird and creative, and the emotional beats hit so well that I can't help but love it regardless.

5:34 It's good that Jo isn't one of those characters that does things she knows would upset her best friend. She's actually considerate of Raissa's feelings. This actually makes their friendship more believable and wholesome.

8:29 - "How is she (Jo) not the coolest kid at school?" Context from a filipino in the philippines that has Jo's personality; the philippines is still an asian country and very conservative.

The popular kids are the quiet smart kids who everyone feels if they're friends with will have a connection to someone who will definately be making a lot of money in the future. Around this time, extrovertion of this degree was discouraged because it's seen as "childish".

Asia has a really bad ageism problem, and in the PH it's very common for parents to tell their 7 year olds not to cry, not to watch cartoons, or not to play toys because they're too old for it.

Raizza would be the popular kid. Not Jo.

I got jumpscared by my own video HELP

more clarification: "Tara na" is common modern slang for "let's go" that is used widely but "Tayo na" is more formal, older, and still widely used by other Filipinos. Some examples include songs:

"Tayo na" is used in songs such as "Tayo na Sa Sineskwela" and "Tayo na sa Antipolo" while "Tara na" is used in songs such as "Taralets" which is further slang taken from "tara na" and "let's go".

I'm gonna make a bunch more videos about this but a few fun facts from this movie:

Bungi seems to be a mix of two separate monsters, a tiyanak (a monster baby) and a bungisngis (a one eyed giant). His name is also a play on the fact that he only has one tooth, because "bungi" in Filipino means "toothless" or having missing teeth.

Manananggal do not breathe fire but it was cool as hell anyway.

The Kapre leader had the word "Pinuno" written on his body, which means Leader. I can read baybayin (the writing they use in this film) so it was fun for me to translate the signs in this movie.

Both Mermahn and Raw seemed to be based on two common Filipino male stereotypes; one is the pretty Filipino fuckboi obsessed with his looks, and the other is called a "jologs" or a sort of rough, kind of uncool guy who's of the streets, basically everything Raw was can be summed up by the Filipino word "jologs"

I thought the pacing was perfect, not too long or too short. Raisa was also just as, if not sometimes more, a trouble maker than Jo.

She immediately became my favorite of the two when she decided to jack the bullies car for parts to make a bigger rocket.

THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT THAT INCONSISTANCY WITH THE TRAILER AND THE CONCEPT i had no idea what time-based memory loss concept was not in the movie

As far as I remember, what Filipino kids really loved playing at school were melodramatic and comedic parodies of whatever was popular on TV, usually a popular teleserye or the news. Stuff that felt grounded and relatable. Mythologies, while nice, were not so novel since everyone grew up around them. The girls depicting the manananggal at school would not get as many laughs or cheers as some other group roleplaying a fight between two mistresses of a cheating husband, with the twist of him ending up with the driver or smth.

“Dude, where’s my memory?”
That’s a hell of a logline!

Sis finally remembered her password!

When Bungi said, "Leave my mother out of your "'f******g' mouth!!", that was hilarious! A lot of the audience missed it.

Raizza being popular and Jo being the bullied weird kid is actually on brand in the Philippines. I would know. I was an introverted Jo. :(

Jo probably did not become the most popular kid in school after that presentation was because she insisted her lola went to nakali and met all these creatures. Which even for a filipino kid is kinda weird.

From a Filipino person I FRIGGIN LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!! Can’t wait for the brawl this year between this and wildwood for the Oscar

Man, the climax to this film is probably my favourite out of all the DreamWorks movies I’ve watched. The direction is amazing, the voice acting (especially from Liza Soberano) is burned into my memory, and I was really emotional by the end of it.

It's crazy that "Hexed" was rumored to have Filipino influences influenced by the Filipina director's heritage, and we could've gotten THAT this year along with "Forgotten Island."

From the direction of Puss in Boots The Last Wish and The Croods A New Age

I will say it again: Hexed does not look "bad", it just looks sooooo incredibly been there/done that.

This feels like a movie destined to become a cult classic years down the line.

I like the general feeling of care and insight of the Filipino setting at the start and how it may feel hectic with characters at the beginning, the characters bonds and presentation towards the end was nice. I enjoyed the film and animation is very well done.

Ironic you say this movie could have been longer because this IS Dreamworks Animation's longest movie, at 109 minutes. Not even the How To Train Your Dragon movies (except the...sigh... live-action version, which...feels spiteful to make THAT longer) are this long. Also,I guess you didn't like Cosmic Princess Kaguya? Funnily, that movie is somehow two hours 20 minutes.
