I was the shy kid growing up. I was weird.
Now the entire next generation is the shy kid. Social media was a mistake.

I teach Junior high kids. A few have told me I'm nonchalant or asked why I'm so nonchalant. I told them it's not nonchalant, im just burned out.

Ironically, the oxymoronic act of planning a performance of nonchalance is alarmingly cringe.

I think it’s ridiculous how we’re labeling everything now

a former roommate once said we shouldn't get snacks for our house party because she thought it was too high key which to me still is the epitome of sad nonchalant

All the more reason we need to limit our social media usage, and not overshare everything.

I saw a video recently where a college professor let the class choose: take final exam or dance for an hour straight. Only one girl got up and danced. This whole generation is so whacked out on trying to look cool they missed the opportunity for a class party as the final exam. The kids aren't alright.

I've slowly been becoming more and more chalant and I've never been happier. Be chalant, that's how to be cool.

It's easy to see how we got here, with social media surveillance culture now nobody wants to "stand out" too much bc it gets you clowned on. Sad state of affairs

going to an art college is such a breath of fresh air from the rest of the world where everything is the same. No one is the same and nobody cares if you do something cringe

Stifling any feeling and snuffing out any curiosity is an apocalypse of the soul.

I'm waiting for the moment when being constantly on social media will be cringe, I wonder what those nonchalant people will do

Having never really used social media this makes me realize why some of the people around me are the way they are.

Basically, giving humans devices to give their opinions so easily anywhere they want publicly was like giving a gun to a bullied school kid.

My friends keep telling me that I act like a kid way too much sometimes. Yet a ton of people keep inviting me to everything and then message me personally that it was so much fun to meet me again. I don't care about what others think, so I won't change myself anyway since I already know who I am and I am just easing away from my pain with them.

I've been teaching high school percussion kids for over 20 years. In the last 2-3, the kids just DO NOT CARE. I see no true passion for music in the band programs anymore. Or even a real interest in ANYTHING in the world. They're afraid of looking "cringe" when doing visuals or God-forbid, appear to ENJOY having fun. It's the strangest thing ever.

The world being full of smartphone shutterbug and meta ai predator cameras immortalizing every embarrassment is an extremely good point for why nobody has a personality anymore and having a personality feels dangerous

Oh btw I can testify in my 40s about regretting the times I stifled my chalance. I was largely an embarrassingly chalant person, honestly, like to the point I'd get bullied for it, and really the only thing I regret now is the times I let the bullying win and I tried to be the opposite of myself and act like nothing mattered and I was too cool to even take a deep breath because taking a deep breath is cringe. Go be chalant, it's so much cooler in the end, and it draws authentic, cool people to you -- the bullies are pretty much always the ones who are too scared to do anything themselves and want to bring you down a peg for daring to have fun.

The word nonchalant makes me physically sick bro

Moral of the story -"we are so shy that we feel shy about showing about our shyness openly"😶‍🌫️
