I haven't had a post from you in forever... I was subscribed, so Im not sure what happened. I think my phone must have done an update and lost some things... but anyway, I am SO pleased to hear you post this!!! I learn so much from your posts. This is something I have wondered about for a long time. Terrific explanation!!!

This tutorial is very good basic oil paint "rules" to keep in mind. I have been oil painting since 1973, and his wisdom is good common artistic techniques!

Layne, Liquin has been my only medium for 30 years! As you say, you can use it from start to end, even as the underwash, and right through to create beautiful palette knife impasto. Its my absolute favourite tool. Lovely video. Just popped up in my feed.

I only use thick oil paint and palette knives.

At least that's how it's been for 3 years

I did a painting h last year (36x48) mixed walnut alkyd oil medium mixed with a little stand oil. Everywhere I had a thin layer had craquelure. I’ve been painting for 30+ years and never had anything crack. AI says it was the different drying rates of the two mediums. Then the painting fell over in the studio because the Bernese Mountain dog got excited and she stepped on it and put holes in it. What a strange week that was. At least she stepped on the one that failed. 😂

Thank you sir. As a new painter I am very much over whelmed by the techniques involved. I have been following Mr. Hill of late, Ive only been painting since Nov but very quickly needed more than the Bob Ross videos. I had wanted to try that ever since I first watched Bob in the 80's and only now , im 66, have I gotten around to it. My kids tell me they are astonished at the few paintings ive done and honestly I can say that its something i cant believe that i can kinda of do and look forward to many more years of painting. I would be lost in this fantastic world I have just discovered without the people online such as yourself. Thank you for sharing. God bless.

What amazes me is not the art here, but the fact that somebody can visualize something so detailed in their minds that I can never do

This was so helpful both in your explanation and in seeing the different glazes being used on a real painting of yours! Thank you!

I'm so glad I found your channel, as I want to try Liquin. I have a question - in this video, you added 2 to 4 drops of Liquin to a blob of paint ready for the first layer. For the next layer, would you add 5 or 6 drops to the same amount of paint, or would it be a lot more than that? Thank you so much for making these videos.
