Kerchak actually becomes a little more understandable when you remind yourself that he loved his son, watched his son get mauled to death, and then watched his mate then try to fill the void with a human
like he was still holding a grudge but he was also a parent grieving his son while also having to be the strong protector of the family group

Fun fact: The signature "Tarzan yell" is provided by Brian Blessed, the voice of this movie's villain Clayton. because after noticing that Tony Goldwyn could not make a convincing scream, Blessed went to one of the producers to tell him that he could do it, the producer refused at first but after he yelled in front of him, he accepted.

Here’s a fun design/story fact.

Clayton and Sabor (the leopard) share the same colour palette, Clayton appears right after Sabor dies, effectively replacing him as the antagonist in the story. Plus the sound of the gunshot is similar to the sound of a leopard.

Clayton is just Sabor in human form.

Phil Collins didn't have to go so hard on the soundtrack, but we're all glad he did.

Fun Fact: The animation of Tarzan’s tree surfing was done by studying skateboarders like Tony Hawk.

Terk is one of those characters where I was surprised was a female as a kid. I missed her mother calling her little lady but other media further confirm it like in the TV show in an episode where I remember even Tentor was like, “You’re a girl?!”

Clayton's death is one of the darkest in all of Disney! The silhouette on the tree is a WILD decision to include! 😨😱

One of the best villain deaths in all of fiction. He LITERALLY brought it up on himself. His own flaws and vices killed him, and in the end he was even more savage than the wild animals he hunted.

Another fun fact: The Phil Collins song "You'll Be In My Heart" is actually a lullaby dedicated to his daughter Lily, who is also a year older than me

The way Tarzan looks at Jane while they're together in the vines just....UGH the YEARNING. We need more yearners in media man.

The theory that loops Beauty and the Beast with Tarzan is that Jane is a descendant of Belle and the Beast, hence her dress and Mrs. Potts and the teacups

The death of Kerchak was very sad. Throughout the story, he wasn’t very fond of Tarzan being part of his tribe. After he was saved by Tarzan from Sabor and was shown that Tarzan was capable of being a protector, he lightened up a bit, until the betrayal scene.

When he was shot and near death, he passed the torch to Tarzan and finally acknowledged him as his son, that tugged at my heartstrings so much and I couldn’t hold back my tears. Very similar to Mufasa’s death in The Lion King.

Clayton's death feels less Disney and more Final Destination

Something really unique about this movie is that Phil Collin's worked with linguistic coaches and recorded himself singing in Spanish, French, German, and Italian in the respective versions of those dubbed movies. Growing up with the Latin American version, I always thought Collins spoke Spanish because of how well that version sounded.

Fun pointless fact: In the original Edgar Rice Burroughs 1912 novel, Tarzan's christened English title he was born under is John Clayton II, Viscount Greystoke.

Fun fact: If Tarzan had wanted to be the leader of the troop, he could have done it. Remember when he was roughhousing with Terk and had her in a neck hold? He used the same technique on Kerchak, but with more force—almost killing him. That’s when he realized he could wipe out the gorillas if he wanted to.

For context btw, the animals don't speak english, Tarzan just learned their language.

Tarzan: No matter where I go, you will always be my mother.
Kala: And you will always be in my heart.

Fun fact: Rosie O'Donnell (the voice actor for Terk) had her own talk show in the late 90's called "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" and I used to watch it with my siblings when I was little. She also portrayed Betty Rubble in the 1994 live action Flintstones movie, which is another icon character of hers

As a child, I didn’t notice Clayton’s shadow at first. Then at 13, i definitely started noticing the shadow. Like how I saw the skull in Gaston’s eye
