This is Dave Grohl on drums also. He did most the drums on this album “With Teeth”.

"there is no love here and there is no pain" is basically just saying existence without emotion or feeling, just being numb while marking time.

NIN is basically one guy: Trent Reznor.  When Trent recorded Every Day is the Same he was going through addiction recovery.  Sobriety made him feel a weird monotony and he felt a sort of existential disillusionment where everything was dull and unchanging.  Addition had been chaotic and now he had a "normal" life.

This album saved me time and again. This song in particular. I was 17, working full time, living in a house of hell. Every day was the same. Wake up, work my ass off at a shit job, come home and lock myself in my room away from the chaos. Blast this album, pack a bowl and fade away. Now I'm 37. This song still hits me.

"Right where it belongs" from NIN should be next. thats my fave.

something i can never have is my fave by NiN

The NIN song 'The Great Below" would be a good reaction to do.

You hit..."sterile".

Trent talks about this song coming from a journal he kept while he was im rehab after someone slipped him heroin on place of cocaine.

The whole With Teeth album is awesome. The first album he did completely sober. Got married, has 6 kids, wins oscars for movie scores while continuing to tour and put out new NIN.

I know you have been big on the cure, Trent reznor inducted them into the rock and roll hall of fame in 2019, he gave a great speech and has credited them as a big influence on more than one occasion

"Surprisingly."  LOL.  No one is more talented than Trent Reznor out there.

I think you would appreciate NIN Live at Rehearsals, Head Down. Live, raw, melodic, heavy, perfect!

The beauty of this song is that it can apply to so many different situations in so many points in our lives. When I was young, this song was about school and how the monotony and the system made me numb, then after school, it was about not having a job or anything to work towards, just living day by day, then I got a job, and it became about the monotony of the job I was working, and doing the same things every day with no changes or progress, then now I'm a recovering alcoholic; and it's about how numb I am after having to start again from zero.

The song means a lot to me got me to my first AA meeting

The song is not talking specifically about job routine, I think he is talking about monotony of life and existence in general, no love, no pain, nothing. I sure get what he's talking about. Reminds me of quarantine during covid.

I've never been the biggest NIN fan despite listening to them a log growing up. That said, the fragile front to back is one of the best albums I've ever heard.

Fun Facts: Trent Reznor (who is "NIN") writes and plays most of all the instruments you hear (or programs the drums) in every NIN recording except live show recordings. In live shows he has a rotating band of musicians to play along with him.

Kept me sane in a insane time.

In my last job before recently retiring I worked 18 years in corporate engineering for a manufacturing company that made pressure vessels.  My work experience there was the polar opposite of the message in this song, everyday had fires to put out, difficult issues to overcome, deadlines, meetings, travel, etc. but when I visited the manufacturing plants...I could see monotony at some of our manufacturing facilities.  Guys came in and welded damn near the same things together all day long, repetitious and mundane stuff.  At one of our facilities (out in the country in Tennessee) we could make 21.5M/year of the 20lb BBQ cylinders and it was almost all automated with minimal employee participation (mostly as eyes for Quality Control).  It was the only product they made and it was like a Kibbler Cookie Factory, steel rolls and powder-coat paint came in one door and out the back of the plant went pallets of propane 20 lb'ers.  Freaky.  During my first plant visit the Plant Manager walked the line with me to show me how everything came together.  It hit me how boring it all seemed but everyone was so happy, smiling, waving and saying "Hi".  Puzzling for sure.  I asked him, "Do you have long term employees?" and he enthusiastically said something like "Yes! They work for one week at a position on the line and move up the line one position the next week.  In less than 9 months they know how to do every job on the line, they really like it.  We have dedicated warehouse staff but even some of them put in requests for time on the line. We even have a lot of sons and fathers working the line too.  We have lots of team building, cookouts, picnics, everyone is like family because most of them are related.  During deer and turkey season we encourage everyone to bring in hunt photos and we even give out company hats in camo and hunting awards."  I must have looked like I'd been smacked with a dead fish because he started laughing.  He said something like "You can't make everyday the same, it would drive  the men nuts", and then he laughed (at me).  I got lucky because later he became a good friend.  To me it was apparent that Al treated everybody in his facility like they were one of his cousins/family and he was the wise Grandfather figure.  He retired after 41 years.

i worked at a plastic injection molding plant in my late teens. standing in the same spot for hours at a time really messed up my back. if you asked why we couldn't have a stool or chair to sit on and they'd look at you like you grew a second head out of your neck.

as somebody who has been listening for over 2 decades and have had a lot of phases in life, if you give his discography a chance, there's something for everybody. his music has saved my life for a LONG time. I'd say my favorite tracks are his 1089-1994 discography and some odd songs from newer albums. I can't say I'm the biggest fan of his newer stuff but it has been a pleasure to watch him evolve and collaborate with other artist. it's interesting to see him go from anti-establishment, angry and his struggle with depression and addiction to his success, winning a grammy and making tracks for Disney of all things
