I Needed to Get Away… So I Spent the Night Alone in the Woods

Sometimes you just need to disappear into the woods for a night.

In this adventure, I head into a Welsh woodland for a simple solo overnight camp. With the rain moving in, I set up my tarp, build myself a sheltered little camp and settle in for the evening.

After such a long, dry summer — and with the wildfires we’ve seen across the area — I had to take extra precautions to avoid starting a wildfire. I carefully prepared the area around the fire, kept it small and controlled, had water ready and made absolutely sure it was fully extinguished before leaving.

The woods will always come before the camp.

Nothing fancy on this trip. Just a tarp, a small fire, some food, the sound of rain hitting the shelter and a night away from everything.

These are probably the camps I enjoy most. No big destination. No complicated plan. Just getting outside, slowing everything down and remembering why I started Woodwandering in the first place.

🌲 Staying wild, staying yourself.
