And if you want a more serious video, on Sunday I unpacked a recent short about neurodivergence from The Financial Diet, and whether NOT wanting to socialise makes you a ‘loser’ 🧐: https://youtu.be/CXhr-gyr5AI

This will be the last video on the channel for this year, so thank you SO SO much for being here 💛 Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! 🎄🎄

Coca Cola marketing: "we designed our bottles to encourage people to socialize and make new friends"
The real reason: "we designed our bottles to require a second bottle to open to encourage more sales"
(Also, seems like you can just buy 2 for yourself and open them with one another)

As a 57 year old autistic man, I think I can save you from decades of false hope. No Meg, phone calls will never be easy. Merry Christmas.

I'd like to point out that us humans (and primates in general) had eyes on the front of our heads before becoming predators. The depth perception that 3D vision gives you is useful for hunting but also helps immensly with grabbing branches, vines, and other such things, especially while moving quickly. I would know, I'm missing an eye and fail to grab basic objects like doorknobs frequently.

19:50 Snow is a natural insulator of sound! So when there's lots of it, the world is quite literally quieter :3 It's like laying out soundproof foam over the whole world. I love it

People always want to pull us out of our comfort zone so we can socialize.
Why don't they just make the social zones into places where we can be comfortable? Then I'll come out.

'What the hell is that fruit passionate about??' Finally, a good gay joke lol

To clarify, the original post is of course referring to passionfruit, but 'fruit' is also a reclaimed offensive term for a queer person, and borscht is using it in that context.

11:40 this just convinces me more that the fae myths are based on autistic people because both are weird about names 😆

The coke bottle one 🤣 Those diabolical extroverts will stop at nothing...

I tend to not say someone's name on purpose, because I'm afraid it's not their name. I often forget people's name quite quickly too and because of that, I only ask for their name a few times. If I still forgot their name, I'll just wait till someone else said their name often enough for me to memorize it. If I want their attention because I have a question or needed their help with something, I'll just stand in their vision and ask them. this method has never failed me.

However, there is something else that's more effective. Writing down their names and describing how they look like makes me remember their name instantly. Sadly, I can't always do that...

I was told that I needed to eat spinach to be healthy, which my 5 year old brain understood as getting my celiac go away. It took forever to make my mom understand that I didn't destroy spinach because I enjoyed it but I forced it down hoping to get to eat noodles and bread again. Turns out celiac isn't curable, my immune system is just broken. And the spinach thing was a maths error

My therapist once told me that instead of PDA standing for "pathological demand avoidance", that a part of the Autistic community has renamed it as "persistent demand for autonomy" and that has SOO changed how I feel about myself when I experience PDA! 💖

5:58 If a shark is in a swimming pool, it's not the swimmers that need to be scared, but the shark. That shark is going to die a horrible, gill-burning death.

Nessie is somewhat more of a concern, though, given that it's generally portrayed as something like an elasmosaur and would thus be air-breathing and would be less affected by the chlorine.

19:16 I believe that this person was referring to the sound-dampening effect that snow has. Snow does a decent job of absorbing sound, and can therefore cause the world to be literally quieter. I am not a sound or acoustical engineer so I cannot explain exactly why this happens, however, it should be fairly easy to find a well constructed explanation somewhere online 😊

7:13 whenever i talk about not being able to handle the pressure of playing on a stage in front of an audience (extreme social anxiety) people tend to hear that i only have stage fright and tell me "oh just play more in front of an audience and youll get used to it" Well i am done listening to that advice because all it got me were two autistic meltdowns and my dad giving me a lecture about how i "didnt prepare enough" and then took my personal computer i bought and built myself and delayed my projects for a week. Also had to stay up one night the day i got my computer back to finish a project for my school so i could hand it in in time.

OML I LOVE my son's AuDHD at Christmas and birthdays! He's SO easy to buy for as I can just feed into his current hyperfixation or special interest! I KNOW they will be a hit and might even be rewarded with happy flappies! I didn't realize he was AuDHD when he was little, but themed parties and Xmas gifts have always been the thing.

Re: using names: Egad! That’s so “me” and I didn’t even know how to describe it! Someone will greet me with “Hi, [my first name],” and I’ll respond with just “hi.”

@ModernMedusa 9 months ago

I actually feel really lonely on Christmas. I wish I could complain about having to socialize too much. Yes I hate masking, but I still need social stimulation. :(
