This '90s-style creature feature takes place over one night in a Biology research lab. When a mysterious package arrives from one of the lab's field research teams, a promising researcher uncovers a plot to steal her work, masterminded by her jealous boss. When the sample is opened she finds herself having to grapple with her conscience before making a life or death decision.

Director's Statement:
My background is in practical Special Effects, but I always start with story. The creature in the film ultimately serves as the amplifier for the pre-existing human relationships, and provides us a path into exploring a theme that is so very important today; the dangers of exploiting the natural world. The story takes place in the mid-90s, leaning into the nostalgia and aesthetic that I feel works so well for the horror-thriller genre. If the audience can feel the influence of shows like 'The X-Files' we're on the right track! At its core, the film serves as a cautionary tale - "Beware when fighting monsters, lest you become one yourself."

With a background in practical special effects, I wanted this film to feel as real and tactile as possible. Almost everything you see on screen was built and shot for real, with just a little CGI where we needed it. The film premiered at the 2024 Blood in the Snow Film Festival in Canada, and now weāre super excited to finally share it online with you through DUST.
We made Night Lab with a touch of 90s nostalgia in mind ā if you grew up on shows like The X-Files, I hope youāll feel that vibe coming through. We really hope you enjoy the film - if you do please share it with a couple of friends whoād be into that same eerie, late-night energy.
No spoilers, but Iād love to hear your take: did our characters make the right call? And what do you think happens next?
Canāt wait to hear your thoughts ā happy discussing! and feel free to ask me any questions you may have!
