Have you ever owned a VFR800Fi? Would you buy one today? And if you have owned one, what was it like to live with? Let me know in the comments 👇

Had two of these, both yellow. Wonderful machine. Rode it from England to Milan in one day in torrential rain and then around Europe. They are very well engineered but worth checking for their known faults, including rusted down pipes (often replaced with stainless ones). My mate just bought a 2017 VFR and it’s not half as good as the old ones.

I had one years back 2008, seem to remember it cost me around £4k, ran it for a few years used it daily for work to avoid traffic jams. Great bikes.

They are so cheap because they were built to a high standard, they are durable, and many are still on the road, running with hundreds of thousands of kilometers on the clock. When the market offers a large number of units, prices usually drop due to the abundant supply.

I bought a 40,000 mile 2000 year model a year ago for £1600. They are amazing bikes. 100bhp is perfect for British roads. Even did a trackday at Brands and it went well. They do run hot so you need to make sure cooling system is up to scratch. And reg/recs can go. Otherwise bombproof. One of the best allrounders ever made. And at these prices a ridiculous bargain.

I have been looking for a while, wondering whether to buy one.

Had one for 2 years 2 weeks after buying it took it on a French trip without any preparation or problems just love it to bits as with all bikes of this age a bit of maintenance is called for but not anything out of ordinary

That’s my bike I’m selling silver VFR  . It’s still available . A honest bike at realistic price 👍

looking for one for a couple of weeks now, not uk though, so they are a bit more pricy here

Here in the u,k the cost of dealer servicing for these is astronomical. Hence the increasing popularity of parallel twins. Les good bikes but much more affordable to own.

Was top of my list in 1999, wanted a yellow one, great engine but was a bit heavy for the power output so ended up buying a CBR600FY as it was lighter, faster (and cheaper) , i didn't regret that decision. Have had numerous Honda's over the years since with the linked brake system, never a problem.  Bikes of the 1990/2010  era were engineering at it's best in my opinion, now spoiled by emissions legislation and over 'techy' electronic rider aids.

I had an 83 VF750 FD, sensational bike but for its cams. Today I picked up a 2001 VFR800Fi with 34500km on it. Rides and runs bloody fantastic 🥳🎉 it has a micron slip on exhaust so it sounds sweet as. Reg has been replaced, brakes, fluids and clutch all done as well. Bikes in this condition do not last long on the market in Oz. My last bike was a 2000 Ducati ST4, which was a beautiful bike except it was very high maintenance and proved just too expensive to keep. 😢

They've always been cheap, l bought a 750 with 70k on it for £1200 maybe 15 years ago. I commuted on it every day for 5 years and sold it for £1200. I had 2 x800's, nothing failed on them ever. They sold loads and they were never fashionable.

Great bikes I had the sliver one. But traded it in for the 1200 crosstourer. Would have another .

One of, if not the best engine Honda ever made. They are quite heavy compared to newer bikes and down a bit on power, but that V4 is glorious. The only thing that ever went wrong on my 50k+ miles vfr750 was the starter clutch.

I started looking at these as after a second bike, but somehow have ended up looking at DCT Crosstourers 🤣 Primarily because I really like the DCT system. Some real bargains in your video. I wasn't looking at VFR800's post 2001 as didn't want VTEC.

Hi Andy, I've got a VFR 750 in red 1997, the one before the 800. Very good nick,25k, worth 2 grand. The 800 first model GEN 5 is generally regarded as the best VFR due to injection and no VTEC. It does have linked brakes though and I prefer the 750s looks.
Reasons why they are so cheap in my opinion:
Sports tourers that are softened up sportsbikes are out of vogue. It's either race reps or adventure bikes these days. Not just the VFR, look at theTriumph Sprint 955i, and the Ducati ST range. The ST4 is basically a comfortable 916 at a quarter of the price and a better bike all round for the road.
Thsee 20 year old bikes are not quite classics just yet, just old modernish everyday bikes. That might well change in 5 or 10 years time.
They sold thousands of VFRs and Sprints so they are common and still plenty for sale  so it's a buyers market at the moment.
Riders under 35 arent really interested and they have no tech so they just get ignored and they buy something newer wiith TFT and other techy stuff which makes them feel safer.
Good spot, these are absolutely giveaway money.
Good luck with the BMW, hope we all get an update shortly mate.

I have a 2001 800fi in red.  Paid £1900 for it nearly a year ago.  It gets more attention than any of my friends newer bikes....and the sound, nothing now compares to it.

Just picked one up for £949

Had a 50th 1998 Anniversary model, the "proper" one by RS Performance..excellent bike, engine a peach, the sound fantastic, especially the combo of the gear driven cams and the air intake on the overrun, ...but you would indeed need a spare regulator/rectifier or two, or probably a better / aftermarket one with a fan....the high level exhaust looked great, but made it a real bugger changing the rear tyre...and the linked braking system, a Honda "specialty", is/was unnecessarily complicated....ditto the body work, really fiddly to take off....would I buy one today? Couldn't unfortunately, as they do not pass the London ULEZ regs....and I'd opt for a bike with ABS...shame the subsequent VFR1200 did not stir the same emotions / tick the same boxes....(had a 1993 750 VFR before this one, arguably an even better incarnation of the VFR concept).....
