In this video, I perform a first-time fault code scan on a newly acquired BMW R1200GS using the MotoScan App.

This simple check tells you:
➡️If there are stored or active fault codes
➡️If the bike has hidden issues you can’t see
➡️Whether sensors, ABS, or other systems need attention

Doing this yourself can save a lot of money, especially right after buying a used BMW.

I have used the MotoScan Ultimate with the OBDLink LX on my 2014 R1200RT with no issues. I just used it last weekend when I changed the battery to check trouble codes and reset a service date. I do all of my own maintenance and have saved a ton of money verus going to my local dealership. Money well spent and worth the small investment.

Just did a MotoScan on my 06 R1200GS (44K Miles) as it had a yellow triangle light that would always come on cold and then sometimes go out. It ended up being several codes. One code was over charging and it ended up being both extremely dirty battery grounds and positive... Previous owner just installed a new batter but never cleaned any connectors. I also added dielectric grease too. Other code was the right O2 sensor, heater... It ended up being dirty 4 wire connectors... Just sanded them down and added more grease. I also have a light issue but they all work fine. I think I will just delete that code with the MotoScan as I will be installing LED bulbs soon.

That is a big motorcycle. I am tall and I think my feet may not hit the ground. Can’t wait to see the full maintenance on her. I love look for details. You should have been a detective Old Mac.

Check the throttle body cable pulleys for cracking.

I have an '08 GS that I love. I'm using the GS911 and so far so good. So nice to know what's going on, perform certain service work and to be able to reset service reminders w/o a trip to the shop.

Great, a new 1200 series service. I'm curious to see if there's a big difference compared to your beamer from 2010. I can never learn enough.

I have 2 BMW 1200GS - 2016. I have tried the Motoscan software using the Unicar scanner and the ODB scanner and the cable you recommend and another cable. I have tried 2 different android phone - latest version android and version 11 android. That's 2 bikes x 2 scanner/adaptors x 2 cables x 2 phones = 16 combinations. The Motoscan connects to the adaptors just fine but I have never once connected to the control units - probably tried 50 or 60 times. I borrowed a GS-911 from a buddy - connects immediately. I'm glad to see someone can make it work but in my case it's all being returned. I should add that motoscan does not answer emails so if it doesn't work you are on your own to figure it out.
