Today, I’m taking my first-ever ride on a 2008 BMW R1200GS (K25)! After picking up this legendary adventure bike from a mate, I wanted to share my raw, unfiltered thoughts.

Compared to my usual 2023 Suzuki GSX-8S, the GS feels incredibly heavy, massive, and wide.

In this video, I do a full walkaround, explain exactly how I ended up bringing this bike home, and give a completely honest, beginner’s overview of what it’s like to handle a big GS for the very first time.

I have that exact same bike! I did the Mager 12000 mile myself. It came weth a brand-new battery and that seems to be the way thay start. I think there's a ( heavy duty starter motor for this bike I've heard ) my be roomer. I've had mine on a BDR and some insanely nasty dirt roads. You will fined it's honest on the pages! Take the ruder of them and stand up!!!!!! Stear weth your lagges. The bike is much better with 70 lb of camping gear on it! Remember have fun !!!! This bike will take you anywhere!!! You will run out of guts before you run out of bike

I have one, but mine is the later LC (liquid cooled) version.

They really are fantastic bikes once you get used to the feel of them. They’re phenomenal for touring, be it two up with boxes or solo with a roll bag and tent strapped to the back end. They’re very capable off road too., believe it or not.

There is a bit of a stigma with them. Other riders mostly don’t nod or wave. You may get the W⚓️ hand gesture now and then though. And be prepared for the “do you take that off road mate?” and mutters that sound like “GS W⚓️” when you pull up where there’s other riders.

There’s a little gadget you can get for the indicator cancel button so you don’t have to look for it. I got the same setup on my old K series bike.

Also, there is an aftermarket fuel strip that doesn’t fail. I only had 2 fail on my K bike.

Yes, the famous GS!
I've ridden an RT & that had lots of character! The side rocking of the engine was fun!
Upon start up, it sounds like a tractor, but once warmed up, it settles into a hum.
The amazing thing about those boxer engines are their low COG, the front end & shaft drive..
Definitely a long distance tourer!
Not, so much going to the shops but it can do it...the cafe? Definitely!😉

I had a F800GS with that system of indicators...it actually works for some strange reason...press them simultaneously for hazards...
BMW..know for being different...
