the ddlc situation irritated me so bad, they all just looked like normal girls and it was the artists own interpretation but people on tiktok think not liking something gives them the green light to harass an artist. and then when people call it bullying and harassment all of a sudden it’s “i was just giving constructive feedback (loud incorrect buzzer)” or “you shouldn’t have posted it on the internet if you can’t handle people not liking it”. oh my goodness. is creativity illegal now, are we not allowed to have our own interpretations of media? i swear tiktok keeps making people dumber and meaner. it’s so scary to be an artist on that platform because even something as simple as a drawing characters in your artstyle video can turn you into the next “art lore” victim. it’s so infuriating.

And the artist is just 17!!! I feel so bad for them 🫪

People hate when art remind them of the true of reality

A lot of beauty standards in general are based off of infant like features and this situation reflects this so badly. They look like normal teenagers and yes, teen girls can look masculine. It doesn’t make them less realistic at all and I think femininity is blown way out of proportion. I love ur art btw!

I feel like these ppl never go outside and are too used to looking at anime girls, so when they actually see a more realistic depiction of a girl they flip out ;-; in that doki doki fanart they literally look like normal teenage girls

Why can’t women just be average in peace💔

This is the main reason I don’t have TikTok, they objectify women and expect them to fit their standards, thank you.

I hate when people hate on a female oc’s character design for being “ugly” or “unattractive” just because they have features like sharper jawlines, broader shoulders, smaller eyes, bigger bodies, acne, braces, glasses, etc.
Because I get so mad and confused at the same time; Like- go outside and take a walk, you will see women that have those features! Not every girl is going to be a carbon copy of those exaggerated magical girl neko teenagers in animes!

Agreed! Not every woman looks a supermodel and that’s okay

9:11 Also, the thing that baffles me the most is the fact that when people draw an anime character with darker skin these people suddenly say that "they're japanese, so they can't be black". But I bet the same people would hate on a drawing of an anime character actually drawn as japanese. Make it make sense

YES YES YES FINALLY SOMEONE TALKING ABOUT THIS!!! I'm so tired of people always expecting women to look like super models while men can look any kind of way 💔💔

Also unrelated but I love your art style sm 😋 it reminds me of a children's picture book

It’s so fcking funny how people say Ochako is wrong about Izuku looking plain and hate her for it, but then when he is actually drawn plain they think he’s ugly 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

“You’d think artist would be more progressive, but that is not the truth.” Artist/alt online people can be some of the nastiest cruelest people on earth

It comes to the point, that people are just being racist,,,, I’ve seen way too many people basically just want smaller nosed, straight hair, blue eyed character

as a black person, yes, some black women and darker skin women have body hair! and are fat! it's okay to have a character like this, but if POC are the ONLY ones who are like this then...maybe consider why that is

Honestly as somebody who's "ugly" irl [ albeit not a woman, I'm in that weird space between being seen as a man and a woman because I'm visibly intersex ] I feel like even I get afraid to represent people like myself in art because of how weird people are towards non-conventionally attractive characters

As an AFAB fem presenting person who’s black, fat, has body hair, has cellulite, and has stretch marks, I like seeing people draw characters with those features. However, I can also acknowledge that some artists, especially if they’re white, have unconscious bias when it comes to drawing black people. Drawing a non black female character as a non-conventionally attractive black woman isn’t bad, but when the ONLY character that’s not conventionally attractive is the black one, then it becomes an issue. An example of this is Susie and Noelle from Deltarune. A lot of artists when designing gijinkas tend to draw Susie as black and Noelle as white. While there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s when people explain their reasoning for choosing those races for those characters that things get questionable. People interpret Susie as black because she’s masculine, aggressive, kinda dumb, poor, and either has no parents or abusive parents. Whereas people interpret Noelle as white because she’s rich, smart, soft spoken, and feminine. Another example is the Powerpuff Girls. When artists draw the girls as black humans, they tend to draw Buttercup as dark skinned and Bubbles as light skinned or albino. Associating negative traits with blackness and positive traits with whiteness is racist, and a lot of artists don’t unpack that. At the end of the day, this is a very nuanced conversation because never drawing black female characters as fat, muscular, or hairy isn’t the answer either. There’s a lot of colorism and fatphobia that black artists (and the black community in general) also needs to address and unpack.

As for the whole drawing anime characters with more Japanese features. I remember a mini argument on Twitter about how race bending anime characters is bad because it perpetuates the idea that Japanese people are “raceless.” Thus they call artists who draw black edits of anime characters as racists against Japanese people. I think the real issue is that anime characters who are supposed to be racially Japanese aren’t designed to look Japanese. One of the worst cases is Usagi. No Japanese girl is born with big round blue eyes and blonde hair. Another example is Naruto. He too has big blue eyes and blonde hair. Sasuke on the other hand has smaller darker eyes and black hair. I think it’s a bit questionable how the character with the facial features that a real Japanese boy would have is written to be more antagonistic. The only anime character I’ve seen that’s designed to look Japanese is Sakamoto. However, to your point, this argument is irrelevant because whenever an artist draws an anime character to look like a real Japanese person, weebs get mad at them for drawing them “ugly.” In reality, they don’t care about Japanese people being properly represented in art, they’re just anti black and and lookist.

female art beauty standards are suuuper skinny.  i saw an experiment someone did where they traced taylor swift or some skinny celebrity to see how people judged the same body type in art, and people thought she was chubby.  someone who meets beauty ideals in real life is unconventional in art because perspective is so skewed

> see art that has a woman wearing a 'fatass' sweater
> barely even chubby
> pear-shaped, if anything
> i like big women. that woman is not big.
