The Simpson's version with  Sideshow Bob going after Bart is just as compelling😮

Juliette Lewis turned 18 in 1991. Cape Fear might be to most high quality scary movie ever, the cast is certainly the most stacked scary movie, Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, Gregory Peck (iconic voice), Juliette Lewis had her big breakthrough here, this movie and her acting landed her so many roles in the 1990's and beyond.

38:46 He didn’t kill the maid in between shots, hearing the maid was an attempt to fool you as an audience member. It was meant that Cady was speaking in her voice.

Jessica Lange was born in 1949 and her big breakthrough movie was, The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981) Jessica Lange played the female lead next to Jack Nicholson, who was the biggest male star together with Robert Redford at the time. Jessica Lange then starred next to Dustin Hoffman in, Tootsie (1982) and then in, Frances (1982) she was the sole lead of the movie and her performance gave her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role, Meryl Streep won the Oscar for her performance in, Sophie's Choice. Jessica Lange was also nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in, Frances, and ones again lost to Meryl Streep and Jessica Lange's performance in, Frances, also landed her nominations on many international film festivals and international award shows. A legend was born.

"Cape Fear" (1962, black and white) starring Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum was made in a time of less graphic  movie violence yet evoked the same menacing and growing tension as the 1991 film and also climaxed on the boat.  Pretty much equally good films so someday you should see the original.
As for Jessica Lange, she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her work in "Tootsie" (with Dustin Hoffman) and then an Oscar for Best Actress
playing a bipolar housewife in the drama "Blue Sky".   And she was Oscar nominated for 4 other movies during the 1980's.

De Niro is incredible in this movie; he turns into a beast. It’s undoubtedly one of his best performances, and he should have received more recognition for this role. However, he is praised more for Taxi Driver and *Raging Bull*.

Re-using Bernard Hermann's score was such a brilliant move by Scorsese and might be the only time it's ever been done.

Hi Leia, for some Robert Mitchum you gotta check out "Night of the Hunter"!!  A masterpiece!

One Jessica Lange film definitely worth checking out is the remake of the Film Noir 'The Postman Always Rings Twice' (1981) In which she stars opposite Jack Nicholson

A liitle known film starring Jessica Lange as a lawyer defending her father, from allegations of being a war criminal, is also well worth watching.  I think it's called 'The Music Box'.

And Gregory Peck (Sam Bowden in the original) always radiated integrity onscreen, which makes the difference between himself and Robert Mitchum's sleazy, diabolical Max Cady stand out in the first version.   Peck's next film was the immortal To Kill A Mockingbird.

Everyone in this brought their A game. Absolutely brilliant.

Master piece!
This film had very modern editing for its time, and even today the editing still looks modern, since that style of fast-paced editing—with lots of cuts, zooms, and close-ups—is the standard today.

Scorsese's remake of a classic psychological thriller is on par with Hitchcock - builds more than enough suspense and character development with complexity and shades of grey (the original is solid too and worthy of a watch - and its 3 stars have cameos in this - Gregory Peck who plays the Nick Nolte character in the original plays the District Attorney, Robert Mitchum who plays the cop involved with the rape case  and Martin Judge as the judge plays the private investigator).   The genius stroke is having Elmer Bernstein re-scoring Bernard Herrmann's iconic score - I don't believe this had ever been done prior to this film.   The four actors in this version are at the top of their game - Nolte, who easily could've played Cady in his sleep, takes on the tricky role of Sam who frankly is not as sympathetic as he was in the first film (a game changer here for sure), De Niro giving it all again with pure wily menace as the slippery Cady, Lange - arguably one of our most underrated actresses - is truly remarkable handling both steely resolve and sudden vulnerability and of course Juliette Lewis who garnered her first Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actress as the daughter with doubts of her own.  While many have said the final act teeters into near Jason Voorhees/slasher film resolve if anything it's more of a morality play - the lesser of the two evils winning frankly.

Scorsese's version is actually a remake; the original is from the 1960s. In fact, this remake features the two original leads—Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck—in supporting roles, as a tribute, I suppose.

This movie is so damn good.  I ll give it to DE NIRO for providing  a great piece of acting one of a kind.

Juliette Lewis also starred in Natural Born Killers (1994) with Woody Harrelson.

This is a  remake of the original Cape Fear made in 1960 and starring Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck - both of whom have cameos in this new version.  The powerful music score composed by the great film composer Bernard Hermann was used in both films.

I have to admit, DeNiro's red Hawaiian shirt is 🔥

Robert Mitchum who plays a cop here was Max Cady in the orginal and Sam in the orginal was played by Gregory Peck who plays maz lawyer here.
