There being "The One Ring" card and people losing their shit over it, paying millions to get it is literally the point Tolkien was trying to make

God, I'll never forget the day in our sixth grade class. When the teacher just stopped mid sentence, sighed, and was like "alright y'all we need to have a talk. You are all at that age now, where it is getting important to take a shower and wear deoterant. If you can't get some deodorant, I will buy it for you. This classroom stinks, it's unbearable. If you don't, I'm gonna start calling out the biggest offenders." I was so afraid of being called out for being stinky in front of class, I've never forgot my deoterant since that day. These tournaments need Mrs. Eckles.

boyfriend recently taught me how to play commander, my general body odor increased by 50%

EXPERT ADVICE: I worked in prisons. Some inmates will stink up their cells on purpose to annoy workers or other inmates. VICK'S VAPORUB UNDER YOUR NOSE. A little bit will do.

Social anxiety is so common in "nerdy" hobbies. I don't understand  how people who are anxious to be in public dont take the bare minimum of time to look good before they go to these events.

I have a tiny bit of social anxiety. When I go to my friend's house for game night, I shave, shower, brush my teeth, put on fresh clothes. I carry gum on me because I'm a smoker and I understand some people are very annoyed with even the slightest residual

Favorite ruling to ever be made for any card game is “you cannot eat your opponent’s cards.” Many tcgs were forced to implement this because people would destroy another person’s card, then call over a judge to disqualify the other player for having a deck that didn’t have the minimum amount of cards.
Thank you for covering this ruling.

Will always find it hilarious that a competition where you sit and have close to no physical movement or interaction has people who smell worse than most athletic events

Hygiene has been such an issue in the yugioh scene, Konami made a master rule for competition, stating players that smell bad will be removed from events.

the paradox is everyone recognizes the problem but no one thinks they are part of it.

My cousin worked in a stable at a farm and once told me “the trading card shop smelled so bad I had to take my stuff and leave.” 💀

My sister used to play magic and pokemon. My dad had to yell at her to shower once and she threatened to move in with her mom

It’s so funny that someone probably spilled an energy drink under their chair and the community is so known for being gross that everyone just immediately thought it was piss. I laughed way too hard at that

People should be shamed bad for their personal hygiene, if they don’t meet the requirements they should be shamed in front of everybody.

Nicks story about having to quit a tournament from repetetive chemical warfare when he was 10 is hilarious and i love when he tells it

The owner of my local game shop is awesome. He'll straight up call people out and send them home if they are causing a massive stank. They might be embarrassed, but they sure as hell shower before they come in now

I play warhammer at a local venue and I am not even kidding when I tell you there have been tire tracks on the chairs magic players used

I worked at a movie theater when I was a teenager and when the Dungeons and Dragons movie came out in 2000, I shit you not, we had to switch the theater twice because the crusty dudes watching the movie smelled so bad. The body stench odor was so strong it permeated the seats and we had to use multiple cans of air freshener and Febreeze to get it mildly tolerable again...

Ill never forget how much i died laughing on “TCG shop simulator “ when i had to constantly walk around the shop making sure the customers smell good

Yu-Gi-Oh! had to make a game rule change because of bad hygiene once. Not a tournament thing, an actual mechanic of the game was changed because people were being stinky and sweaty.

There's this one card (Yu-Jo Friendship) that asks for a handshake so both players may equalize the life points basically, however, if you had another card in hand (Unity), the other player was forced to make the handshake. If they didn't do it it'd be a game loss for them.

Thing is, people noticed that, and they started playing with the most awful hand hygiene they could just so the opponent would be grossed out and give up the game for not shaking hands. Not washing their hands, purposefully getting them sweaty, coughing and sneezing on them, etc. You could do this in a tournament and you'd win.

This led to the definition of a game ruling where the "handshake" in question is just the idea of a handshake, and no contact was necessary so long as you agreed to the idea of that handshake.

Absolutely wild.

10:14 My local card shop had to stop hosting Yugioh tournaments because of how many complaints the store would receive afterwards about the unpleasant smell they left behind. The straw that broke the camels back however, was when one top Yugioh player shit their pants and then proceeded to stay without cleaning themselves because they were on a winning streak 🤢! The worst part is that they ended up losing 😭.
