Noooo, they’d never try to hurt me, McDonald cares about my health and safety, that’s why they brought back the snack wrap

Before anyone shits on Liebeck, her medical records had the words “fused labia”, which shouldn’t exist in any context, let alone the potential consequences of a cup of fast food coffee. She can have $20,000 for medical expenses, and $20m in emotional support.

Yeah no if my labia is being fused to my thigh, it is not a silly lawsuit. It shouldn't matter that she was holding it between her thighs. A mistake like that should not result in a fused labia. The coffee was way too hot. It sucks that the smear campaign they ran against her is still working

The fact that one charged lemonade has more caffeine than two monsters really puts it into perspective for me,  man I wish I had it

Hey!! I was one of the people affected by the Peter Pan Peanut-butter! I was a small little kid, and my parents found me in the bathroom on the floor with fluids out of both ends. One ambulance ride later (those EMT’s are my heroes) and the doctors said that if I had gotten there 20 minutes later, I wouldn’t have made it. 1 week medicine induced coma and still happy to be alive. Crazy that people still talk about that event!

the only reason the woman got awarded so much for the McDonalds case was because this had been a trend with McDonalds since the 80s. There had been hundreds of complaints that the coffee was scalding hot to the point of severe burns and they kept it at the 190 degree temperature. The woman only wanted her medical bills covered, but the jury wanted to send a message to McDonalds for negligence because it was made clear that the company knew that it was dangerous in the court case.

The coffee was 190° hunter. I feel like only you would have an understanding of how much fire was needed to produce that heat

So the employee is missing a finger, most likely bleeding, and probably screaming. The coworker at this point ignores his screams, then serves the blood soaked ice-cream to a customer where this man proceeds to eat the delicious treat not questioning any of these events as they unfold in front of him? What? Its so weird.

There’s a lot to the McDonald’s story. That location was told multiple times to lower the temp, the woman was the passenger in a car IN THE PARKING LOT when it happened, and McDonald’s did an excellent job of running a smear campaign against her.

When the coffee is hot enough to fuse your labia together, that's too hot

i miss charged lemonade terribly now i have to hook myself up to a car battery just to get my morning fix

The ice cream one really pissed me off bro held on to another guys finger refusing to let him reattach it he could have still sued without holding on to the guys finger

We studied the McDonald's v. Liebeck case in a law class I took. I came here to ramble, but I'm happy to see so many commenters have already made the right points about how messed up that case was. It's good to know that so many have learned the reality of that poor woman's case.

The thing about the mcdonalds coffee is that Mcdonalds heated the coffee far beyond safety regulations - it wasn't supposed to be that hot. They did an excellent job slandering her to make her seem like she was careless and it was her fault though.

LegalEagle has a great video explaining the McDonald's coffee situation. McDonald's knew that their coffee was far hotter than the industry standard but neglected to fix the issue. Had the temperature been lowered, Liebeck's injuries wouldn't have been as severe. Liebeck only sued for enough money to cover her medical bills, not millions of dollars, but the court decided to make McDonalds pay her millions

These fast food restaurants are like exes gaslighting you into believing you’re crazy

The McDonald’s coffee one was way worse. 3rd degree burns on 16 percent of her body means her entire upper thighs were burned down to the muscle tissue and she was probably hospitalized for a couple weeks. They also arbitrarily raised the coffee temperature to hide how bad the coffee tastes

I have heard so many people mock the lady who spilled coffee on herself like “You didn’t know the coffee would be hot? 🙄” but then when I tell them it burned off the skin on her thighs and she couldn’t even urinate properly because it fused her 🐱lips together they’re like “Oh 😬” There is no reason your coffee should be hot enough to melt all the way through the epidermis and fuse 🐱lips together I’m glad she won the lawsuit

I hate it when people bring up this story and are like, "what is she an idiot" . Watch the documentary of the trial. McDonalds was mandating that they keep the coffee 50 degrees hotter than it needed to be. She didn't sue them because she made a mistake and the coffee scalded her. She sued them because the coffee was soooo hot it burned through her skin, and all she wanted was for them to pay for the medical cost. They also found that this wasn't nearly the first time. In other words, they knew it was too hot and causing injuries like this, and still didn't change it. Finally, we have to remember that these settlements are not about saying "this person deserves millions because they got a booboo". ITs because if you only penalize a company 10,000 dollars when they make millions a day, its not going to be a deterrent. They have to be in the millions so that these companies feel it.

Hunter being unsupportive of the old lady in the mcdonalds thing is so sad.
