Hi Sorted Food & community! I’m Guozi, 1 of the 3 industrial designers who worked on Monchi in 2020. We honestly didn’t expect Monchi to be reviewed at all, so this was such a pleasant surprise!!!

Fun fact: Monchi, with its puppet-like playfulness, was originally designed to help kids eat their vegetables (broccoli, to be exact)… so it’s spooky (and really cool) that Barry picked up on that angle straight away.We also gained unexpected traction during Covid-19, when people started pairing it with Cheetos.  

Over time, we’ve seen it picked up by all kinds of people: hikers, nurses, air crew, mechanics, each finding their own ways of using it. While Monchi has found a special place with folks who have sensory needs or ARFID, we’re just glad it can bring a bit of ease and comfort there too. ^~^

With our very modest (and very inexperienced!) approach to marketing, Monchi has ended up as a kind of internet easter egg, something people stumble upon and, if it resonates, take home. So we're really glad you stumbled across us!

I have a feeding tube and am nil by mouth. I use a foamer every day as the foam disappears in my mouth, leaving me with flavour without actually eating. It is an absolute life saver and saves me from never tasting again.

For the monchi, my wife and I work in childcare where sanitation/time/attention is a constant battle. The ability to feed ourselves without constantly needing to rewash hands whilst also being able to quickly stop what we are doing is enough that I'm probably going to buy a couple.

Sorted, New Rule!   When a Chef says that it can be done easily by hand they need to prove it :).   Not like I don't trust Ben because I am sure he is correct and can foam that by hand, but it would be fun to watch him potentially struggle or prove just how easy it is.

Ben hit the nail on the head with it being the wrong batter. Bodum is originally danish, as mentioned by Mike, and pancakes in denmark are more crepe like.

That Monchi thingy seems custom-designed for me. I'm autistic, and one of my major sensory problems is sticky/greasy fingers and hands; my brain capacity halves as soon as my hands are dirty. Being laughed at for using one of those things is no different from being laughed at for not being able to function until I've scrubbed them clean.

The monchi would be useful for me! I drive a delivery truck and you know how when you receive a package sometimes it's covered in a little bit of black dust? Well, that stuff is a plague that infects everything that's been through a logistics chain, and after handing the boxes all day my hands get completely black like I've been in a coal mine, and often I'm in an area where there's nowhere to stop and wash my hands when I need to eat, so I can't really eat any snacks or foods I would need to pick up. That thing solves the problem.

The Monchi would also be great for autistic people. Many people with autism tend to have sensory issues and don't like the feel of many things and thus won't touch stuff, which can make everything from eating to just finding clothes to wear a nightmare (I'm speaking from experience).

Watching Baz feeding Ben and making voices was so adorable. I’m here for it.😂

I could see the Monchi being useful for knitters/crocheters who might want a "messy" snack but need to keep hands clean.

The foaming device is just a fishing bait aerator repurposed. I have used these for years from different companies that have a clip on the back to attach to the bucket to keep small bait fish alive by aerating the water in the bucket. They work great.

That little silicone thing I think would be BRILLIANT if you're out hiking or camping and you got a bit of crud on your hands and fingers and can't really "wash" your hands.

Bodum is a Danish company, so in all likelihood it's made for crepes/scandinavian pancakes which A) are a lot wetter, and B) can, and indeed should, be "overworked".... so I think that might actually work quite well for those.

The mixer/dispenser probably works better if you do wet, then dry. I use a protein shake bottle to make my crepe and that works perfectly, assuming I do wet then dry, if not the flour catches in the bottom.

5:51 i would love to see a video where Ben is challenged to actually make 101 things with a bowl and whisk. I don't think its overly hard or impossible...

But, I think it would provide inspiration, ideas, motivation and lols...

The Monchi would also be quite helpful for small dog treats! Training puppies who don't yet know to not eat fingers, and also keeping hands slobber-free!

Baz doing the voice and feeding Ben is one of the best things I've seen this month.

The foamer is literally a battery powered bait aerator pump. Specifically the Bluewing bait pump. 18 bucks at Walmart  just relabeled  same color same style same mold. The reason for the  anachronistic styling  is it is for fishing , not a belt clip it is for clipping to a bait bucket lol.

19:58 😂😂 it's literally a fish bait bubbler for bait fish. It even uses the same batterys and hose
