There's a nice old saying that knowing where your car keys are is a common problem but you need to worry when you have them in your hand and can't remember what they're for!

COVID  ruined some people's sense of smell !!!!

I began quilting 4 years ago. I work on modifying the size of a quilt pattern. It requires lots of math. I stand up to sew on my machine.

I have 2 keys 🔑 I’d start to worry if I tried to get in my house with mi car key 🔑

Scrabble?  Dont play chess

Try the standing on one leg for a minute or even a few seconds with your eyes shut. That's the real test!

8 Tests for Dementia:

#1) Can you play chess or high another functioning game, like cards or word games? Learn a new language?

#2) Heel-toe test: take 10 steps walking heel to toe and see your coordination.

#3) Clock test: draw an old fashioned analog clock. Ask to draw a particular time.

#4) Stand on one leg for 30 seconds. If can't, could be micro bleed, vascular issue.
You can try with 5 and then try longer.

#5) Get 5 items, look at them, then put them away. Write down what they are within 30 seconds.  Then wait 2 minutes and write the items again.

#6) How quickly can you identify the right key

#7) Sniff test: get 5 different smelling items. Close your eyes & try to identify the item

#8) 60 second animal test:
name as many animals as you can. Then try in a few weeks again, and see how many you can name.

How many children today can read a clock?

Noticed recently (during 250 year American celebration) my reading of biographies of Alexander Hamilton, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and now George Washington has me looking up definitions of words not commonly used today, but of common usage in our founding Father’s Day!

Smell, the worst is if they can’t smell themselves.

A lot of these exercises make sense. I'm 76 - into fitness and read a lot. I've always had a pretty good memory - but I can tell you, among my acquaintances, around the same age - if they wrote down five things, I don't know if they could recall two or three of them.
And they are NOT demented or cognitively diminished in any way. You can have very good discussions with them, with the most intricate details - Current affairs, finance, you name it.

Some people just don't have good memories - from day one - for names, numbers, whatever, that's just the way it is.

So I would take issue with that particular test 💪👊

Re military time, not just military use it, all Federal govt employees have to use it too. This is because military time is accurate and precise and cannot be misread or misunderstood.  Enjoy and appreciate you three doctors’ presentations every time! Thank you! 🙏👍👏🏻

GREAT VIDEO Guys, thank you so much. Will put my whole family through this tests 😊👍

Jack LaLanne swam from Alcatraz to shore pulling a boat with his teeth in his 90s haha

I can draw a clock, I cannot stand on one leg. My legs and arms are weak.  My memory is still pretty good. I pass the smell test.
I can't do the heal to toe test.
I could never play chess. I never played cards.
I'm 76, 5'5" and 130 lbs. I have gotten a lot weaker in the last two years.

Thank you to all three doctors for your wisdom and advice 🌹🌹🌹

It is gold.

I'm 66 years old and will do these tests with my husband, who is 63 years old.

Although I don't know how to play chess but my husband plays it very well, and he'll teach me how to play it.

My husband and I play card games on a regular basis, a few times a week, which we both enjoy.

We love watching your videos and learning from you 😊

God bless you all 🙏 🇦🇺

I was asked to choose 3 words to remember.  On recall I said "all babies go to heaven on airplanes".  He liked the fact that I could connect with words into one concept.😊

I was with my mom at the doctor when he asked her to draw a clock 😢 it was awful how she was able to hide her decline for years!

That was great to know! Thank you!
