The swamp monster is the creature from the black lagoon.

To this day, I always laugh at the military actually showing up because they got the letter.

Best line in cinema history! "The wolfman's got nards!"

The scene where Dracula lifts Phoebe up and she screams was done in one take. Duncan Regehr wouldn't wear his red contacts or fangs around the five year old Ashley Bank because it scared her too much. For the scene, director Fred Dekker just told Ashley to scream once the platform raised her. When she asked, "When?," Dekker told her, "Oh, you'll know," and proceeded to shoot. The terrified scream you hear when Dracula opens his eyes is Ashley's genuine scream of fright.

This movie asks the question "would a modern audience enjoy the classic monsters?"
The answer was YES!

The armadillo at the start is a nod to the 1931 Dracula movie with Bela Lugosi, which also featured armadillos incongruously roaming Dracula's castle.

The mom (Mary Ellen Trainor) is also one of the mom's in The Goonies, is in Congo and Die Hard and Plays the Psychiatrist in the Lethal Weapon movies.

Nostalgia over load 😊 we loved this movie as kids

Kid who plays Rudy was in Kids incorporated. You can find tons of clips of that show on YouTube

"I heard he killed his dad!"

Rudy is my favorite part of Monster Squad 😅
On the anniversary edition commentary, Ryan Lambert, who plays Rudy, confirms that he also thinks Rudy killed his dad - which makes his delivery of "Only one way to kill a werewolf..." take on dark subtext, as it's not the first time that Rudy has had to stop a man who turns into a monster.
"Bang!" 😎

A great movie to introduce younger folks to horror. As a kid I saw this at the theaters and it became a favorite.

OOOOOHH SHHHH!! Y'all watching my childhood. One of my ALL-TIME TOP 5, THE cult classic. Mu-Mu-Mu-Monster Squad.

Another great horror by Fred Dekker other than "Night of the Creeps" is a horror/mystery from 1985 called "House" with William Katt (who played the nice boy Tommy in the orignal movie Carrie) and George Wendt who played Norm Peterson on the TV sitcom "Cheers." It's a cult horror classic.
