Thanks for promoting this series. I thought AS/Chad would put out a video, but nothing so far. A correction, Etta James 'At Last' is the Stereo release (now noted as such on the AS website). That French 'Peaches' is a reissue of the original US 1971 Chess release.
Hi Mazzy, I want to thank you for this nice video highlighting the Chess 75th Anniversary. We are very excited about this series and are really happy with the results. Matthew Lutthans actually cut all of the Bluesville records for the Craft Bluesville series, at The Mastering Lab in Salina, KS. He will also be doing the Chess and most of the Verve series reissues, as well as many other things for Analogue Productions. We feel very lucky to have Matthew working for us, and he is doing a great job.
Thanks Mazz for presenting some blues stuff. I've always went to the concerts in SF when these artists were highlighted. The first concert that I went to at the Fillmore (I know I've mentioned this before) I saw Paul Butterfield, Big Mamma Thornton, and the Jefferson Airplane. I was only 16 at the time, but it turned me into a lifetime blues fan forever. Then I saw Hendrix, Mayall, and Albert King on the same bill at the Fillmore, and I was completely hooked. To this day at 75 years old I still listen to the blues. Big fan of the Chicago style.
The early Muddy Waters that came out originally on 45s are raw and great (worth knowing that Chess was mostly 45s feeding juke boxes and working class turnntables) - I am going to buy these reissues
I bought many of these in mono on Pye R&B International in the late 1960s and they are the best pressings I have ever heard and in my head I still hear this music the same way over 55 years later. Mono is the way to go with 1950s Classic Chicago Blues from Chess. I will probably buy all of these, but I do hope that the distribution in Europe will be better for these than for the Bluesville issues which have been poorly distributed on my side of the Atlantic. These re-issues are essential for blues fans. The 'real deal', nothing more, nothing less.
For Blues Lovers this is a steal at Acoustic Sounds . Chad said one of his favorite Chicago Blues Guys ever. AAPO 2011-45 Jimmie Lee Robinson / All My Life 2 - 45 RPM Vinyl Record @ $ 25.00 and AAPO 2006 Jimmie Lee Robinson / Remember Me 180 Gram Vinyl Record @ $ 25.00. Sound 10 Music 9.5. Certainly audiophile quality. Get them before they are gone forever. Best 50 Bucks I have spent in a long time.
Great news to hear that I will have an excuse to buy some of the Chess catalog for the third time! Equally great is the fact that the original analog masters may have been spared the great fire. I hope they provide some more detailed info on that aspect once the release date is here.
I'm really looking forward to these releases, this is my cup of tea . I've been told that chess released albums on crappy vinyl 'back in the day'. I've got some original Chuck berry, and they sound fine to me. Luv the show.
that chuck berry "the great twenty-eight" has really great sound and track list. it might well be all-analog, too. it's the best sounding berry comp i've heard. and it contains one brilliant song after another! i think it's a sleeper.. the best one-stop berry out there.
Let me add if you're a fan of Sonny Boy Williamson Acoustic Sounds also still has Sonny Boy Williamson's "Keep it to Yourself" Cut by Kevin Grey on 33 and 45. This LP also features another great Blues Harmonica player Willie Love. I have the 45 and I will say it is Superb! Love seeing the Blues get so much attention.
